Chazz recovered quickly from the fairly light hit and was able to balance himself easily. His reaction was to swiftly drive his elbow into Makari's chest.

"I'm okay, I have like at least nine lives I think," Makari assured Chazz. He followed his friend, touching his hair when Chazz asked about it. "That's 'cause I don't really ever cut it. Why would I bother? I can just tie it up and not even have to even think about it. You cut yours though 'cause it's not very long. Do you like it to be all... uhh.. short?"

Elyse nodded at Darast's comment. "It's an improvement from last night, though." She smiled at Raphael. "Good morning. I did, actually. These rooms are amazing. How are you this morning?"

"Well I guess that's a simple way to get it away from you," Chazz agreed. "Huh? My hair? Well... I dunno... I like it like this. My parents made my hair so... so stupid when I was a kid. It was... bad. So I made it good. What, you... you don't like it?" He looked at Makari accusingly.

"Oh, I'm... I'm fine. These rooms are v-v-v-very nice. I will have to... t-to let the lady know that we enjoyed our st-stay." Raphael peered out the door at Darast. "G-good morning, Darast. I-I-I heard your... um... cousin... is she feeling b-b-better about... about you today?"

Darast turned around when he heard Raphael speak. "Uh, I guess so. She was nicer, but in a stiff kinda way, y'know?"

He looked around at the group. Everyone was there but Casimir, though Darast was sure he'd heard the fourth door. He went over and knocked on it.

"Hey, you awake? They're gonna come get us to go eat soon," he said. As he said that, the servants rounded the corner and approached the group.

"Awww, why'd they do that? My parents made my hair look like hair..." He shook his head at the accusation. "Hey, no! I like it... it suits you, it makes you look very Chazzy. It shows off your essence and shit..." He grinned, snickering to himself. "That was so deep. Hey, do you think I should cut my hair?"

Elyse nodded at Darast's explanation. "It will probably just take her some time to warm up to him. Some people just aren't all that outgoing." Elyse was being rather generous in her assessment, but she hoped for Darast's sake it was nothing more serious.

Casimir slowly opened the door. Once he saw that the girl and dog were no longer there he stepped out. "Yeah... I'm awake," he said, even though it was obvious. "Good morning." He instinctively stepped closer to Darast when the servants approached; he hadn't forgotten his last encounter with employees of this mansion.

"Mornin'," Darast replied as Casimir exited his room. The kid seemed a bit unnerved by the servants who had come as he had moved quite close to Darast.

"If you all are ready, we shall lead you to the dining room," one of the servants said.

Everyone seemed ready enough, so Darast nodded and the servants started to lead the way. He followed them, bringing Casimir with him. The group descended a flight of stairs and took a few turns, then found themselves in a large room with a very long table in the middle. Darast's eyes grew wide at the grandeur of it all.

At the other end of the table, he could see Manya sitting at the head, with Nadina on the right side next to her. She made a gesture for them to come and sit.

Chazz grinned, seemingly satisfied that his haircut suited him perfectly. "Well..." He looked at Makari's hair, thinking about the question. "I think you'd look more... more Makari-y if you cut it a bit. I'm glad I cut my hair... Mom didn't do a good job. But I guess... you know, she and Dad did everything else good. Like... damn, everything. Like food and helping me when I got sick or hurt and teaching me... stuff and telling me those bedtime stories and..." He trailed off, remembering some of the things he was talking about with a contented smile.

Raphael listened to what Darast had to say about his cousin, hoping that Elyse was right about her. Casimir then emerged from his room and Raphael greeted him with a smile, but wasn't sure about talking to him. It wasn't long before the group was escorted to the dining room, which sort of reminded Raphael of home. He took a seat. "G-g-g-good morning, ma'am," he said to Manya. His ears began to twitch. "I would like to... to... to th-thank you for... p-providing us with such... such excellent rooms."

"Ohh... well I should look Makari-y 'cause... I'm Makari. Maybe I'll like... cut it... and stuff. Some day." He then listened to what Chazz said next and looked at the smile on his face. "What...? That sounds really... quaint. Uhh... I don't even know if it sounds like real life."

Casimir rather obviously forced himself to return Raphael's smile and then followed Darast closely as the servants led them to the table. Casimir avoided eye contact with either of the two women as he sat next to Darast. While they seemed nice enough now, they did have a dungeon under their house and his mother's warnings were ringing in his head.

Elyse smiled at Manya and nodded in agreement with Raphael. "Yes, we really appreciate it," she added, relieved that Raphael had managed to avoid swearing or throwing utensils.

Manya watched them all take their seats, while Nadina didn't really show much interest. Darast sat to the left of the head of the table, with Casimir on the other side of him.

"It is the least I can do to make up for treating you so horribly," Manya replied to Elyse and Raphael. "I would like to thank you for helping bring my nephew to me."

Darast shifted uncomfortably. This was all for him? Before he could say anything, however, the servants returned with plates full of food. They placed a plate in front of each person, then silently left the room once again. The food looked and smelled absolutely delicious, but he looked to Manya before he touched it.

"Go ahead, that is what it is there for," she smiled.

Darast smiled back, then said a silent prayer to Bahamut and dug in.

"Hey! It is so real life! It's my life!" Chazz retorted. "Or... uh... it was my life. Mom and Dad, they would take me... little me, to the market and we'd get food and pet dogs. And then... and then Mom would buy me these books... and when I was really little Daddy read them to me but I got older and read them myself. And then... and then Mommy would teach me all the weird elf words... I can say them all now, isn't that cool? And then Daddy... took me out of the house and showed me how you shoot... stuff with a bow. Oh... with arrows, from a bow. I never shot something besides a tree though... but Dad said I did good. And... and Mom said I did good too. They always said... I did good..." He seemed to be very happy as he spoke, staring off at nowhere in particular.

Raphael was happy to see that Darast and his aunt seemed to be getting along well, even if it was a little awkward for Darast. His cousin still didn't seem overly friendly, though. The food came and Raphael began to blink uncontrollably. He was definitely accustomed to the style of living but between the way they had entered the house and the bad experience with Darast's cousin, Raphael was still a little nervous. "Dumbass!" He wasn't able to stop himself. "M-my... apologies..." He looked down, waiting for the response.

Makari listened to Chazz's stories with interest. They really did sound too perfect, but they made Makari feel kind of warm and fuzzy inside. He nodded knowingly when Chazz said that his mother had taught him elven words. "I know some of those words... a lot in fact." He gave his friend a thumbs up and smiled as he continued talking. "That sounds so... good," he slurred. "Even though you had a bad haircut... you still had a good life. Your parents sound really nice... my parents were nice too but not to each other... but they took care of us and stuff... and yeah, this one time I was outside and I got lost in a meadow 'cause I was doing something and then... uhh... well, it got dark and I was lost but my dad came and found me and I was glad. Yeah..."

Elyse thanked Manya for the food before helping herself. It was deliciou. However, the moment was short lived when Raphael shouted dumbass. Elyse's eyes widened in mild horror; talk about bad timing. She smiled apologetically at Manya and her daughter. "He really doesn't do it on purpose," she said.

Casimir's gaze had been fixed on his food, but when Raphael swore he glared at him rather viciously. Offending people with a dungeon in their home wasn't the best move to make.

"Haha, you got lost in a meadow? Aren't they... like... flat? And empty?" Chazz slurred. "Your parents sound cool, I think. My parents... they're really nice. I... I love them... oh..." He suddenly frowned. "I... used to... before..." He trailed off and was silent for a moment before grabbing a bottle of whiskey and taking a drink. "This is good stuff and I like it."

"Yeah but... it was a meadow I never... saw before 'cause it was dark and I went all far out of Orios and stuff, oops. Hehe." Chazz then seemed to recall that his parents were no longer alive, which reminded Makari that his family was dead as well. He took the whiskey from his bag and motioned at the ground. "Hey... let's sit here, yeah?" He plunked himsef down on the ground and took a swig from his bottle. When he looked down he saw a single ant crawling on his hand. "Hey look... I made a friend. Maybe he can be," he hiccupped, "my familiar."

Makari found a place to sit, so Chazz flopped onto his back next to him. He took a drink from his bottle and then looked at Makari's hand. "Oh yeah... look at that cute lil' guy..." He then looked up at the sky, unable to get his parents off his mind. He wished he could see them again, just one more time. Everything had gone so badly since they died and he would give anything to somehow go back to that day and save them. Tears began to form in Chazz's eyes and he suddenly rolled onto his side, facing away from Makari, with his hands covering his face. He sobbed uncontrollably as he curled up, his body shaking.

Makari blinked as Chazz flopped over and started crying. He reached over and patted his shoulder but decided to let him get it out. However, with no one to talk to and the sound of Chazz's sobbing, nothing could distract him from what he had learned the previous day. His eyes welled up and his lower lip quivered before he burst into tears.

He glanced at Chazz before giving him a shake. "H-hey, Chazzy..." he sobbed. "We can't... we can't do this, we have to get going...!" He tried to pull Chazz into a sitting position.

"K-Kar-Kar..." Chazz rolled toward Makari a little and looked at him, his face soaked with tears. "Y-you're... crying too." He hiccuped and then rolled back onto his side, curling himself into an even tighter ball. "Mom... I-I want Mom..." He continued to sob and shake.

"I-I'm not... crying..." Makari sobbed, furiously wiping his eyes. He didn't try to pull Chazz back up and instead just patted his head as tears streamed down his own face. "Yeah... I know..."

Having his head patted made Chazz feel a little bit better. He looked up at Makari again, his sobs a little less intense. "It's... it's okay, Kar-Kar. It'll be okay..." The tears streaming down his face didn't exactly help with the comforting effect, though.

Makari seemed to relax a bit at Chazz's words. "Yeah... yeah... it will. We're in this t-together..." He suddenly pulled Chazz up into a hug and started softly rubbing his back. He was still crying, but he managed to control the sobs somewhat. "We're gonna... we're gonna get out of here and... and your parents would be... so proud if they knew.... how you managed to do so good." He continued to hold Chazz close, half whispering, half slurring reassuring things to him.

Chazz was surprised when he was suddenly being hugged by Makari. He cried into his friend's shoulder, becoming less and less tense as Makari spoke. "You... you really think so? Th-they would be... proud..." The words were soothing. "Yeah... we're... we're gonna keep going. And we'll leave here... and... and everything will def... definitely be okay." He looked at Makari as seriously as he could while wasted. "We don't need to... to cry. Cuz everything'll be just... just fine."

"Yeah... they would..." Makari murmured. He seemed to be getting ahold of himself as Chazz spoke reassuringly to him. He sniffled, and managed to stop sobbing. "We're gonna be... just fine..." He was starting to feel really heavy and sleepy all of a sudden. Without warning, he fell backwards and was out cold, his arms still around Chazz.

Darast almost dropped his fork when he heard Raphael's outburst. He immediately looked across the table at his cousin, who had also stopped eating. Her expression clearly showed that she was pissed off.

"Mother, I told you it was a bad idea to let these peasants eat with us," Nadina said with disdain.

Manya looked from Raphael to Elyse. She didn't look particularly pleased either. "Fine, I will take your word for it. But please, do not let it happen again or I will have to have you leave the dining room. Such things are not acceptable here. And Nadina, dear, please do not say such things about our company."

Nadina looked down at her food and picked at it. Darast shrugged and continued eating.

Chazz nodded in agreement with Makari but felt too exhausted to say anything. He had already passed out in Makari's arms when his friend fell backwards.

The sun had barely risen when Chazz opened his eyes again. He had no idea where he was or why it felt like he was being held down or why whatever was beneath him was warm. When he was able to focus, Chazz's eyes went wide. "W... what the hell?!" He squirmed and flung himself backwards into a sitting position on the ground near Makari's feet. "Seriously, just... what the hell..." He couldn't remember how much he had had to drink, but apparently it had been a lot.

Raphael felt absolutely horrible for offending the hosts. "My d-d-d-deepest apologies, to... to... to both of you," he said, and then looked down at his food and didn't say another word. Raphael had seen Casimir's reaction as well; he would need to explain to him later that the outburst was not directed toward him at all.

Makari awoke at Chazz's first outburst, in time to feel his friend struggle out of his arms and fling himself backwards. He wasn't sure why they kept waking up like that; it was rather awkward. However, it was also kind of hilarious, especially the way Chazz tended to react. Makari needed to cheer himself up somehow, so he supposed a bit of harmless teasing wouldn't hurt anything. "Wow... what a night," he said, pretending to nervously avert his gaze from Chazz.

Elyse smiled gratefully at Manya. "I'm sure it won't." She then turned to Raphael and reassuringly patted the poor guy's hand. Casimir just began picking at his food again. The two were obviously not happy; if Raphael did it again, he could really screw things up for all of them.

"What...? Um, do you... remember something?" Chazz looked down and picked at the grass, embarrassed. He hoped it was nothing, because otherwise he would feel awkward around Makari. "I... don't remember anything..." Chazz also found that he was feeling a bit nauseous and his head ached, but there was nothing strange about that. He suddenly thought of a way to shift the subject a little. "So, do you remember how we got here?" Chazz hoped the subject would stick, though it was probably obvious that it was only a distraction.

Raphael smiled briefly at Elyse and then looked back down. He couldn't believe he had done that and he began to wonder if he would ever get any better at all.

"Er... well..." Makari blinked at Chazz and carefully touched his own lips. "I... remember a bit," he 'admitted'. Chazz abruptly changed the subject then, which showed that he was actually buying into this a bit. Makari shook his head. "I have no idea... but I guess we're gonna have to find our way out." He avoided eye contact with Chazz as he spoke, pulling himself to his feet. It was only then he realized how nauseous he felt. However, that was just becoming part of the morning routine by now. "...heh, it's a good thing you don't remember what happened. I kinda wish I didn't."
