City: Xan'Tartica Empty City: Xan'Tartica

Post by JerriLeah7 13th July 2013, 1:29 pm

City: Xan'Tartica X2qy3t

City Name:  Xan'Tartica
Country/Territory:  Acyterus
Government Style: Theocracy
Population:  1,907 Registered Residents
Tech Level:  Below Average --  Moderate Reliance on Ether Technology
Trade:  Ether, Minerals

Xan'Tartica is a dry, uncomfortable place due to Ether Contamination.  Many of its plant life is dead or toxic and the city relies on its Ether Trade, ironically, to bring in food and water to keep its citizens alive and fed.  Most of this country's inhabitants choose not to live in the city and more often dwell outside in smaller villages and settlements in order to prevent the risk of Ether Toxicity.

Xan'Tartica was once one of the frontier Ether Refineries, but due to the advancement of Ether Refinement, the city's population has been in decline--even more so due to the new Ether Refineries that were constructed relatively close to this city.  It is more than happy enough to get residents, and as such, the security is low and the ambient Ether concentration is high in this area.  It is higher in toxicity due to Ether pollution, however, so few Force Users call this place home.  Luckily enough, plenty of reservations exist outside of Xan'Tartica within Acyterus.  Xan'Tartica's role as the primary center of this once proud country continues to diminish every year.

Xan'Tartica is kept running primarily due to the mineral resources that were discovered during its original Ether ambitions.  Although Ether is important in trade, Xan'Tartica also trades in a specific mineral that cannot be found anywhere else, as the mineral has been formed over time from Ether Pollution.  This strange, self-generating mineral, known as "Laudimite," which gives off a distinctive, red-yellow light and seems to absorb Ether Toxicity to generate itself.  Research is currently being conducted to see its affects on humans and animals and the predominate uses of the mineral is in old refinery dump sites and as a decorative gemstone.

Lewyn awoke to the sound of his alarm clock. He wished he could just throw the stupid thing against the wall and be done with ever waking to that awful noise again. However this is what his life had become and there wasn't anything he could really do about it.

He stared up at the ceiling, trying to will himself to get up. His body felt awfully heavy, and when he sat up he saw why. There was Kashel, wearing a slutty dress, lying across his bed and right on his legs. The guy had full makeup on and some pretty high heels, an outfit which clearly said that the guy had been to a club.

He leaned over to Kashel's ear and yelled, "Get the hell off me, you asshole!!"

Kashel had only collapsed on the bed an hour before Lewyn's alarm clock went off. Between his exhaustion and the copious amount of alcohol he'd consumed, he was sleeping like the dead.

Not even the dead could withstand Lewyn's yelling, though. Kashel stirred, putting a hand to his forehead. He still felt very tipsy upon waking and when he looked up at his roommate the only thing he could do was give him an unconcerned shrug. "Hey, don't yell at me. I want to love you but you're making it really hard." He yawned and sprawled out a bit more, taking a moment to tug his short skirt down. "I think I'm just gonna stay right here... I could live here." One of his shoes was dangling off his foot, so he kicked it off. It hit the wall that Lewyn shared with Kiran. "You can go back to sleep."

He didn't even understand why Lewyn was up so early. Even though it was Friday, he was convinced that it was Saturday.

Kiran had been sleeping very soundly until he heard some yelling, and then Kashel's shoe hitting the wall. He shot up into a sitting position on his bed, alarmed. As he was wondering what that was all about, he glanced at the clock. "Oh no..." Kiran murmured as he realized that he forgot to set his alarm clock. This happened occasionally, but he always made sure not to be late for work. One of his roommates could always get him up anyway.

Before he could start getting ready, though, Kiran had to know what the noise was. He quickly left his room and went to Lewyn's door. "Lewyn...? Are you okay?" Kiran asked. However, before his roommate could answer, he opened the door and looked inside. Lewyn could really need his help, after all. The sight inside the room wasn't all that unusual, and made Kiran feel more relieved than anything. "Oh... good morning, you guys," he greeted them. "How late were you out this time, Kashel? We need to start getting ready for work..." It always worried Kiran that the guy would stay out most of the night.

[ATTN:  Kiran, Kashel, Lewyn]

Ms. Linda shoots up from her bed, her back straight and her head erect.  Her black hair is disheveled, pointed and angled every which way, not at all like her normal appearance during the day.  Her hair, however, isn't the only thing that is out of character.  In fact, the most noticeable feature would be her face.

Normally, the lovely Ms. Linda has a beautiful, well colored and balanced smile, of course, she also wears make-up, but that is besides the point.  This morning, however, Ms. Linda hasn't had her coffee, she's barely slept, and she isn't happy.  Her eyes are purple beneath them, her face disgruntled and unpleasant.

Robotic in motion, she rises from her bed, looking at her clock as she picks up a glass of old, cold coffee and chugs it within one breath.  She then steps from her room to see Kiran standing at an open doorway as he looks in and speaks about something or another.  She isn't really listening--she only heard the scream and that was well enough.    She enters their apartment, uncaring to be invited in and ignoring all rights of privacy.

Without grace, the coffee mug is lifted and thrown, hitting the door just above Kiran's head as it shatters and falls to the floor just before him.  The man backed away in time, lucky for him--must have some good reflexes there.  She doesn't care. Well, she sort of wishes she had hit him...

"Shut it or die!"  Ms. Linda cries, her hands balled in fists of rage at her neighbors just across the narrow hall.  "Shut it.  Or.  Die!"

She glares at them all before turning in more of a robotic manner before returning to her room and slamming the door.  She could have had another hour's worth of sleep...an entire hour of sleep.  Hooligans.  Damn hooligans. This is all that is on her mind as she locks her door and returns to her bed, wishing for sleep.

Lewyn angrily hauled himself out from under Kashel. "I don't care what you do, but I'm getting ready to go to work!"

Before he'd gotten out of bed, though, Kiran showed up at the door to his bedroom. "Morning, though I don't know if you'd call it a good one," he replied.

Lewyn then heard some screaming that he was sure his ancestors could hear beyond the grave. There was a smash and a slamming door. He thought he recognized the voice, though he had no idea why it was in their apartment. "What the hell just happened?!"

"Good, I'll stay right here..." Kashel closed his eyes but opened them when he heard Kiran's voice. The man asked him how late he was out and Kashel at up and shrugged. "I can't remember... I don't think I checked the clock. And there's not work today, it's Saturday--"

Just as he'd been about to flop back down, he heard a crash and some yelling. "What's that?" Before he could see anyone, he heard them storm off. A door slammed nearby. "I should go find out!" He jumped off the bed, but landed rather painfully as he only had one high heeled shoe on. He winced, sitting down on the floor. "Actually, I don't feel like it... who left the door un... locked... oh." He started laughing at the realization. "I need an intervention..."

Kiran had been distracted by his roommates and only heard his neighbour approaching mere moments before the coffee mug came hurtling toward his face. He got out of the way just in time, and then looked down at the pieces of mug on the floor with concern. That would need to be cleaned up. "I'm really sorry..." Kiran said to Ms. Linda, a bit timidly out of fear of provoking her. Once she was gone, he went and locked the front door.

He then returned to Lewyn and Kashel, broom and dustpan in hand. "That was the neighbour coming over for a visit," Kiran told them as he swept up the mess. He sighed at what Kashel said. "Anyone could have gotten in here while we were sleeping... maybe you could try coming home more... sober? And earlier, too."

"You know what? I don't care anymore. Unlike some people around here, I'm going to get ready for work so I can keep living in this dump," Lewyn growled as he pushed past Kashel and Kiran and headed to the bathroom. He thought maybe if he took a shower he'd feel better about this whole thing, though he doubted it.

Kashel smiled amicably at Kiran. "I could," he agreed, trying to stand up. He wobbled a bit and finally realized that taking off the other shoe would be helpful. He kicked it off. Lewyn pushed by them then. That made him start laughing again. "How rude!" he called after Lewyn before looking at Kiran with a serious expression on his face. "It's really not Saturday...? This is bad... Oh, I guess I could make a grilled cheese sandwich. Maybe that'll absorb all this alcohol. All those guys just kept buying me drinks... they really thought I was a girl, I guess. A really drunk girl... wow, I'm tired. I can't wear this though, can I? Maybe with sneakers they'd let me get away with it... no, I should change."

Kashel grabbed a random assortment of clothing from Lewyn's closet and spread the garments out on the bed. "Do you think he'll care if I wear his clothes?"

Kiran got out of Lewyn's way as his roommate stormed by. The guy was never a cheerful person, so this wasn't shocking behaviour. Kiran then turned his attention to Kashel, just looking at him in silence as he went on and on. He nodded at the sandwich idea; food was always handy in the morning. He nodded more fervently when Kashel concluded that he'd change his clothes.

"Um... he might injure you, and you have to work today, so..." Kiran wished that Kashel would just get ready. From where he was standing in Lewyn's doorway, he could see his roommate's clock. The time he read made him gasp. "It's that late already? I haven't even started getting ready... we'll never make it on time. You have to hurry, Kashel!" With that, Kiran rushed off to throw out the pieces of coffee mug he had cleaned up before hurrying to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Lewyn finished his shower quickly and wrapped himself in a towel. Some of the tension from before was gone, but his mood wasn't any better. Leave it to Kashel to be able to ruin his day instantly. He headed back to his room only to find Kashel was still there.

"Why do you have some of my clothes out?" he asked. "I can dress myself without you picking my clothes out for me, thanks."

"I don't think he will," Kashel replied with a shrug. He followed Kiran's gaze to the alarm clock. He wasn't sure why the guy was freaking out so much; it wasn't that late. "I'm hurrying," he said reassuringly as Kiran rushed out of the room. By now, he was beginning to sober up a little bit and his fatigue and nausea were starting to outweigh the tipsy feeling. He really couldn't be bothered to go to the living room and search for clothes for himself, so he looked down at the clothes he had on the bed. He was about to take them to change into when Lewyn entered the room.

"That's questionable," he replied with a grin when Lewyn said he could dress himself. "I was actually gonna wear them because apparently I can't wear this and they were right there. I can't be bothered to look for clothes." Before Lewyn could protest, Kashel gathered the clothes up in his arms and turned to leave for the bathroom, where he intended to take a shower and take all his makeup off.

In the kitchen, Kiran went to work preparing Kashel's grilled cheese sandwich while he fried eggs for himself and Lewyn. If he could get everyone's food ready, then that would save more time. He heard Lewyn get out of the shower and was glad that his roommate seemed to be wasting no time.

"Lewyn," Kiran called from the kitchen. "How do you want your egg? Oh, do you want toast too? I should really get that going..." Before Lewyn could reply, he was already putting bread in the toaster. "What do you want on your toast?"

"Just don't ruin them or anything!" Lewyn called after Kashel as he went to the bathroom. He then mumbled, "Couldn't be bothered to look for clothes... lazy ass."

Before he could get dressed, though, Kiran was asking him about breakfast. "C'mon, you shouldn't even have to ask that any more. Nine times out of ten I want them over easy." He didn't bother to answer about the toast because he knew Kiran would do it anyway, so he went into his room and started getting dressed.

"I won't!" Kashel called back as he closed the bathroom door. He spent some time taking off his makeup before stripping off his dress and lacy undergarments and stepping into the shower. It was incredibly relaxing and Kashel felt like he could go to sleep right there. That feeling was short lived; nausea overwhelmed him and he jumped out of the shower without turning it off to vomit. When he was done, he brushed his teeth vigorously and hopped back into the shower to finally finish.

After his shower, he threw Lewyn's clothes on and took his bottle of sunscreen from the counter, rubbing it onto his face and any skin that was exposed. The last thing he felt like doing was going outside and to work; he just wanted to sleep all day.

He dragged himself to the kitchen, his face lighting up when he saw that Kiran had actually been listening to his inane rambling earlier. There was a grilled cheese sandwich cooking on the stove. "Aww, you're my favourite," he said with the sweetest smile he could muster while feeling as bedraggled as he did.

"Yeah, I know..." Kiran replied when Lewyn answered his question about the eggs. He always felt like he needed to ask, just in case. Over the next few minutes, Kiran tended to the food almost obsessively; it could burn, after all. He had to make sure that Lewyn's egg didn't get too done and that the yolk didn't break, either.

Kiran offered Kashel a smile when his roommate entered the kitchen. "It's no problem. Things go faster this way anyway." He flipped the grilled cheese sandwich and saw that it looked to be sufficiently grilled. After placing it on a plate, Kiran handed the food to Kashel. "Here you go. Should be done..."

The toast then finished, so Kiran rushed over to it with a plate. However, he then realized that Lewyn hadn't told him what to put on it. He stared at the toast for a moment, trying to decide what to do, before going to the fridge and getting some jam. Kiran got it on the toast as quickly as he could and then placed Lewyn's egg on the same plate. "Lewyn! Your food is done!" He hoped the toast hadn't gotten cold.

Lewyn had just finished getting dressed when he heard Kiran yell from the kitchen. He pulled on a sweater and went out to collect his breakfast. "Thanks," he said as he took it to the table and sat down. He noticed how neatly everything was placed on the plate and how perfectly it was done, a Kiran trademark. He started eating quickly; they were seriously in danger of being late.

"Yay, thank you!" Kashel accepted the sandwich from Kiran and, after grabbing a bottle of ketchup from the fridge, he sat down at the table across from Lewyn.

As soon as he sat down, his body seemed to take that as a signal to rest. He felt extremely drowsy but he tried to shake it off. It was hard to keep his eyes open as he tried to squirt the ketchup onto his plate. Unfortunately, the bottle was close to empty so he had to give it a good shake to get any ketchup out. As he tried to fight his exhaustion, he wasn't really focused on what he was doing. He shook the ketchup a bit too much and a few drops missed his plate completely, splattering on the tablecloth and on his shirt. Some of it even sprayed on Lewyn's face. Kashel smiled sheepishly, leaning across the table to gently dab the ketchup off the guy's nose. Hoping that no one would notice the rest of it, he casually draped the napkin over the spots on the tablecloth.

Kiran worked on finishing up his breakfast so he could join the others as quickly as possible. His eggs weren't much longer and he got his toast quickly enough, so he made his way to the table. There, he was met by a strange sight. Kashel was dabbing Lewyn's nose with a napkin.

"What are you doing...?" Kiran got closer and looked from Lewyn to Kashel before looking at the napkin on the table. There was something red on it, so he pulled it closer for a better look. "Oh, just ketchup... hey!" Kiran's eyes were fixed on the ketchup spots he had revealed on the table. "Kashel..." He sighed, and then put his food on the counter. "You can't just cover it up like that. Ketchup leaves stains!" Kiran pulled the tablecloth from the table, picking up his roommates' food as he needed to and then placing it on the bare table. He then noticed the ketchup on Kashel's shirt and sighed again. "Oh no... bring that to my room as soon as you're done eating," he said as he quickly went off to his room to apply stain remover. "We're going to be so late, I know it..."

Lewyn ignored Kashel when he sat down across from him and started fighting with the ketchup. However, Kashel proved once again that there was no ignoring him when Lewyn felt a splatter on his nose. Kashel reached over and started dabbing it off, and Lewyn glared at him the entire time.

"What is wrong with you?!" he exclaimed. "If I ever snap and start murdering people, it'll be your fault!"

He pushed back from the table when Kiran started going into neat freak mode and that was when he noticed the ketchup on his shirt that Kashel was wearing. He should've known that this would happen because why wouldn't it? Kiran had already gone into action about it, so Lewyn didn't bother to say anything. He just sat there and glared across the table.

Kashel winced as Kiran started freaking out about the ketchup. If anyone was going to make them late, it was him, but Kashel didn't say anything about that. Instead, he just looked at Kiran with sad eyes. "I'm so sorry... it was an accident." He nodded obligingly when Kiran told him to come to his room and dipped half of his sandwich into the ketchup he'd worked so hard to obtain.

Before he could even finish chewing, Lewyn was having his own freak out. Kashel swallowed and shrugged at the question. He knew his sad face wouldn't work on Lewyn so he didn't even bother to try it. "I can tell you in alphabetical order if you really wanna know." He shook his head at the next thing Lewyn said. "Nah, it'll be your own fault 'cause you're an evil, evil person. You should do yoga.""

Kiran knew that it really was an accident, so he couldn't really be upset with Kashel. He was just upset about the whole situation in general. As he applied the stain remover, Kiran could hear the fight out in the kitchen. He sighed. There wasn't any time for them to be distracted like that. As soon as he thought he had done a good enough job on the tablecloth, Kiran started heading out to get them to calm down. However, he remembered something he needed to grab first.

"You guys, listen. Please, you have to just ignore each other. We'll never make it on time at this rate," Kiran said imploringly, looking from Lewyn to Kashel. He stepped closer to the latter and placed a couple of pills on the table in front of him. "Here... this should help you today. I've tweaked it a little from last time, but there shouldn't be a drastic difference." Kiran didn't think there would be, anyway.

Lewyn just rolled his eyes at Kashel. Getting anything sensible out of the guy was always such a chore. Kiran then came back and gave Kashel the latest in whatever he'd been concocting for him. Lewyn didn't really care what it was, as long as it made Kashel more tolerable.

He finished up his breakfast and cleared away his plate, then went and grabbed his light grey armband with their company's logo on it. He strapped it on his arm and went back to the kitchen. He folded his arms and waited for the other two to get their act together.

Kashel gave Lewyn a sweet smile when the guy rolled his eyes. His expression became even more innocent when Kiran entered the room and told them to stop fighting.

He watched Kiran place the pills on the table and listened to what he had to say about them. "Ohhh, okay, I know what these are now." He swallowed one with his juice and kept the other one in case he needed a booster dose. Coming down from amphetamines was a bitch and a half and it would be even worse at work. "Hee, I think these'll help a lot."

He finished his sandwich and rinsed the ketchup off his plate in the sink before going and grabbing his things. He put the second pill in the medicine bottle he kept in his bag. He ran his hand through his hair. He hadn't had a chance to dry it properly after his shower and he was certain it was going to dry sticking out in funny places. "Oh, I know what I forgot!" He ran off and grabbed his umbrella. "Okay!"
