Name: Mihael Castellanos

Backstory: Mihael was the result of an affair his father had with a courtesan. In spite of the fact that he was an illegitimate child, his father warmly accepted him into the family, much to his wife's chagrin. She had no use for the boy, considering him to be a 'worthless bastard child' and wasn't shy about teaching her son, Isadore, to share her views. Adding to her ire and Isadore's jealousy was the fact that Mihael inherited rare light magic from his mother. Mihael's relationship with both of them has always been deeply troubled, but in spite of that he's always sought their approval.

When Mihael was six, Emmett began working in the Castellanos' home. Mihael immediately became attached to the new butler and has remained so over the years.

Name: Cheyenne Vandeviere

Backstory: Cheyenne is the only daughter of the governor of the Chorasmii province. She was born with an innate talent for ice magic. Her parents are proud, doting types and Cheyenne's attitude sometimes reflects this. She was engaged to Isadore at the age of 14 for political reasons. The two are prone to bickering, as Cheyenne doesn't agree with some of Isadore's behaviour.

Backstory: Sascha was born into a highly educated upper class family from the Thracian province. When he was 12, the Thracian Empire conquered the territory of Basilei and his family relocated there in order to conduct magic experiments on the population and aid with the magic infusion of army recruits. The next year, he met a local boy named Emmett who wished to have magic. Sascha told him how he could get it. When Emmett received the magic, he ended up killing Sascha's parents with its unstable power. Civil war broke out shortly after and Sascha's home was thoroughly sacked in the midst of it.

Alone and having nowhere to go in the strange, wartorn province, Sascha found himself with little choice but to lie, cheat and steal to survive. He became necessarily ruthless as a result of this lifestyle, a far cry from the idealism of his youth.

Name: Isadore Castellanos

Age: 18

Backstory: Isadore is the eldest child of the Castellanos family. He has never accepted his half brother Mihael, though that is mostly the result of his mother's attitude; she manipulated his views to match her own. His mother needed her son to be better than the bastard son, and her behaviour was partly responsible for Isadore's perfectionism and insecurities. She led him to believe that his father favoured Mihael and that Isadore had to compete to become the favoured son. However, in reality, their father loves both of his sons equally, though he sometimes gives Mihael extra attention in order to make him feel accepted in spite of his wife's opinions. The fact that Mihael was born with rare light magic only makes Isadore more jealous, so he works hard to perfect his own magical abilities.

Isadore's father is the governor of the Carystos province, a position that Isadore will eventually take over. Since finishing his studies, he has been focusing on becoming involved in politics with his father so he can rule properly. Isadore's mother has arranged for her son to marry the daughter of the Chorasmii governor, which he agrees to do without question despite having no romantic feelings for her.

Name: Emmett Lockridge

Backstory: Emmett was born in the territory now known as the Basilei province, which was conquered by the Thracian Empire when he was fourteen. His father and two older brothers, who were part of the army opposing the Thracians, never returned from battle. After the conquer, his mother became ill from grief and the oppressive conditions and passed away.

Emmett survived with the dwindling people of his village until he was fifteen, when he wanted to fight back. He met the son of the Teresi family, who informed him of the experiments that his family was conducting. They had settled in Basilei to work on imbuing the native non-magic users with artificial magic. Emmett went to them in hopes of gaining the power to fight the oppression, pretending that he wished to join the Thracian army. Once he had received his artificial dark magic, he turned on the Thracians and killed the boy's parents. However, his magic was too difficult to control and he was unable to do any more. Emmett was forced to flee Basilei to avoid the Thracians that tried to punish him for his crime. Thanks to the chaos in the newly conquered and rebelling province, he was able to escape.

After some time, Emmett made it to Raunati in Carystos, where he was found by the governor, Isadore and Mihael's father. The man offered him a place at his mansion as a butler, which Emmett accepted. He has held the position for ten years and has become accustomed to the unhealthy relationships in the family. When he can, he tries to comfort the two boys after Isadore's mother wreaks havoc, especially Mihael.

Backstory: Cerys was born and raised in the Daradae province. Her father was once a soldier, but was injured in battle years ago and is now a blacksmith. Like the other lower class people of Daradae, Cerys' family did not like the economical situation of the small province, as the Thracians did not devote many resources to it. The people of the province turned to the south for aid, but the other country refused. This forced Daradae to take matters into its own hands. There has been slight unrest in the province for many years, but a recent tax hike has caused more organized rebellions.

Cerys' father, disgruntled by the whole situation, recently organized one of the first militias in the province in the large town in which the family lives. Having been taught to fight with a sword by her father, Cerys' joined the fight. She shares her father's dislike for the Thracians and fights for the good of her people.

Name: Theodore Castellanos

Age: 45

Appearance: 6'.

Magic: Earth

Weapon(s): N/A

Backstory: Theodore is the governor of Carystos and the father of Mihael and Isadore. His province is generally a stable one and he prefers to avoid conflict in favour of keeping the peace. This tendency extends into his personal life.

Backstory: Liani is Cheyenne's bodyguard. She is originally from an urban area in the province of Basilei and lost the ability to speak after being infused with artifical magic five years ago.
