Carthean City Empty Carthean City

Post by Red 28th January 2012, 3:36 pm

[ATTN: All]

Carthean City; A sprawling, massive metropolis, home to millions of people, as well as many whom the law did not fully count as ‘people.’ Legally, the term was ‘nonhuman,’ but many of those privileged humans didn’t even call them that – monsters, parasites, things hardly above animals. Too many thought that they were already being given more than they deserved, and so as the moon rose one cold day in February, vigilantes as well as nonhumans rose with it.

The weres had already been up for several hours, only now hitting their stride, and vampires followed after, waking to greet the night. NCU officers changed shifts as the first half of the night crew took over, watching the nonhumans like they were a time bomb. And they very nearly were – there weres, many of them led by Aaron and Else Strong, were getting more and more restless. The mayor and several members of the city council were proposing legislation that gave vampires more rights, ignoring other nonhumans, and many weres had started to protest, as NCU officers watched them warily.

Of course, the humans were hardly happy with the proposed legislation, either, and rumors abounded that Ezekiel Barrows was shoving himself even further into human politics than was already allowed. Master Vampire Ezekiel already was the only representative of nonhumans allowed in the city, much to the weres distaste, but now many wondered if he was starting to get a little too friendly with the mayor and other politicians…

The nonhuman sector was filled with sparks, ready to catch others alight and spread to engulf the whole city with chaos. It was only a matter of time now, though many refused to see it, until the great Crisis twenty years ago repeated itself – and who would win this time was an unknown.

So it was on the evening of February 21, 2012, as the nonhuman district started waking up and the human district started winding down. Tonight could be the night it all starts – maybe tomorrow, or maybe even a month from now. But this tense, fragile peace couldn’t go on forever, and once it broke, no one was allowed to remain neutral.

He moved among the shadows of the rooftops. His target looked up where he was. Enhanced senses. "Silentium."

"I know you're there," said his prey, "I can smell you!"

If he could still feel amusement, he'd have smirked; a vampire--the epitome of the predator--was the prey. The vampire looked quickly around with his inhuman speed. Thanatos came up behind him and whispered into his ear. "Fortitudo."

The blow he unleashed to the vampire's back broke his spine. The vampire's legs crumpled and in that instant, he injected his spring loaded stake from his wrist to the creature's heart. Immediately, the vampire was paste.

"Mission accomplished."

He'd pick up the check within the hour.

Carthean City Empty Re: Carthean City

Post by Tokahia 28th January 2012, 4:12 pm

{Attn:Open (and maybe Annabelle)}

Alex had fallen asleep in the bathtub, warm water soothed him. Though by now the water was probably ice cold, his right leg hung out of the tub. His long black hair floated in the water, some of it stuck to his neck. All of his clothes were folded up on the toilet right next to him.

He slid even further into the tub the water was right near his nose. As he breathed in through his nose water went up it. He started to cough and sat up right. He coughed what seemed like for hours, even though it had been two minutes. He looked around his crappy bathroom. The light flicked on and off even though it was a brand new bulb.

Alex got out of the tub forgetting that the flooring was tile. He slipped and grabbed the shower curtain as he fell. He ripped it right off the post, that also came down making a loud crashing sound. His head hit the ground pretty badly, though it was the one time he was glad he had a hard head.

Once he got his head stopped hurting he got up and dried off. He put all of his clothes on then let the water drain out of tub. He had to ring his hair dry into the tub. Once it was dry enough he tied it back into a pony tail and put his long black trench coat on.

Alex was surprised normally Annabelle would have check on him by now. Though for all he knew she could have gone to work. He didn't even want to think about going to his job just yet. Alex opened the door and walked into his crappy apartment. He looked to his right and saw Annabelle's door was closed. There where pizza boxes near the sofa that looked like it could have been made in the 1920's. There was duck tape covering a broken part on the sofa. He had a small tv with old radio antenna's on it.

He made his way to the kitchen that had dishes piled up in the sink. Alex opened the fridge and grabbed himself a bottle of water. He then walked back over to the sofa and looked at an open door. It lead to his room though it was just as messy as the rest of the apartment. The small digital clock he could see said that it was nine o'clock. He had 30 minutes til he actually had to be at work.

He laid down on the sofa and opened his bottle of water. He took a sip then let out a sigh. He had forgotten to turn on the tv seeing as how he lost the remote. Though at the moment he didn't care about the tv. He was just glad to be awake for the moment. He had the whole night to waste away in a bar and play a piano for a bunch of drunken humans. He slightly laughed at the irony that his job was.

Annabelle awakens a little later than usual. Now she is going to have to rush. She jumps out of her bed. Unlike some vampires she refuses to sleep in a coffin of any sort. She looks around her room, the cleanest place in the whole apartment she shared. On her dresser lie her brush and other toiletries. It was then she heard a crash…sounds like Alex is up. Normally she would check on him, but she needs to get ready herself.

She puts on a pair of black tights followed by a black dress that goes down to her knees. She ties on the white apron around her waist and slips on her comfortable black shoes. It is a typical maid uniform. She then walks over to her dresser and brushes out her brown hair. She opens the contact case. Ever since she had “changed” she’s been wearing them. She hates being a vampire down to core. After the contacts were in place she brushes out her hair and puts on the silly hat they make her wear.

She steps out of the room seeing Alex on the sofa. “You can clean up the place after messing with your girls.” She picks up some of the pizza boxes, placing them in the garbage. She finds the remote in the boxes and fishes it out tossing it on Alex. “I have to get going, I will see you later.”

{Attn: Annabelle, open}

Alex heard Annabelle's door open. She started to talk to him, he watched as she threw away some pizza boxes. He rolled his eyes at her and missed catching the remote. He got up and walked over to her.

"I play in a bar thank you very much. I can't help that girls flock to me cause I am awesome." he said not noticing her outfit.

He then looked up and down Annabelle checking out her outfit. He was kind of impressed at her outfit, he had never seen her wear something like it before.

"Let me guess new job?" He asked, slightly lifting up her dress before she smacked his hands.

He laughed a bit, he enjoyed messing with her, though more brotherly than sexual. He looked over at the clock in his room. He had to leave for his job, at least his didn't have a dress code.

"Well be safe out there dearie. You know how much I worry about you." He said pretending to be like a father figure.

He opened the door for Annabelle who walked away from him. He locked the door behind himself then started to walk to the bar. Once he was there everyone cheered. He was well liked at his job even if he did think they were all drunken idiots. He smiled at them though was careful not to show his teeth.

He sat down at the grand piano and turned to look at the bar patrons. "Any requests? or do you all wanna hear classical music all night?" He asked in a soothing tone.

They all laughed at him, and he laughed with them. They all knew that he would at least play one classical music song a night. None of the patrons suggested anything to him.

"No? Then I guess I will choose. For tonight I think it feels like a Toccata and Fugue in D minor kind of night." He said with a laugh.

He knew it was cliche for a vampire to play this song but the drunken idiots didn't know better. In a way he liked that they didn't know he was a vampire. He felt human again, even if he was a hundred years late to the party. As he played the piano he thought about his old human life and how stuff had changed so much in a hundred years.

{Attn: Alex, Open}

Annabelle feels Alex’s eyes on her and rolls hers. She feels him lifting up her skirt and slaps his hand away. “Yes it is hard to find someone hiring third shift.” She only hopes the people she works with aren’t as bad.

Alex opens the door for her and bids her good bye. She walks in the opposite direction towards the human district. She was lucky enough to pass off as a human. Most of them believe her story about why she was pale. She walks into the employee entrance of the hotel, in the back of the building. Heaven forbid if the employees walk in through the front door. She punches in and walks over the housekeeping room.

Her supervisor looks over his clipboard at her. “You are working the Penthouse today, good luck.”

Annabelle smiles politely, “I will do my best, Sir.” She takes the master key card for the penthouse and walks over to the elevator.

She tells the operator where to go he looks at her with pity in his eyes. “Penthouse? Nothing like baptism by fire, they always test the new people by putting them there first.” He gives Annabelle and appraising glance. “I think you will be just fine, just be quiet and do what they tell you.”

[ATTN: Open]

Leo jumped up and threw a holy water grenade towards the ground as the vampire was charging onto him. When the grenade hits the ground, the vampire right beside it, it detonates and sends holy water as well as the force of the explosion everywhere around, burning the vampire and sending Leo higher into the air.

He takes out his gun and starts shooting his wooden bullets at the vampire while it tries to recover from the holy water, as he falls to the ground. The vampire is hurt even more after this flurry of wooden bullets and falls to his knees while holding the wounds the bullets had caused with her eyes closed.

Once Leo lands he rushes towards the vampire, while still shooting and takes out his sword. He jumps towards her and stabs her in the heart and shoots her in the heart at the same time. She than turns to ash, dead. ''Fuckin freak... you deserved this for existing... Now you are where you belong.. in the abyss..'' Leo says while putting his weapons away.

He than walks off to his house, that was enough hunting for the day.

Alex smiled at everyone in the bar. He had just finished up another classical song. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. His eyes caught with a girl who had long black hair, but before he could get a good enough look someone had walked past his line of vision and the girl was gone.

"Will you all excuse me for five minutes? I need a small break." He said.

The crowd groaned as he got up from the piano. He rushed over to the door and stepped outside. Alex looked around hoping to get a better look at the girl. When he couldn't find her he sighed leaning against the bar wall. He looked up at the night sky.

After a while he walked back into the bar. He got back to the piano and looked over at the bar keeper.

"One strong shot over here." He asked. "Oh and a glass of water." He said.

"You know employee's can't drink while on the clock." The man said making a glass of water.

"Come on just one, I need it bad tonight." He said as a waitress walked the glass of water over to him.

"Fine. Don't make me regret this." The man said.

Alex took the water from the waitress. He took a sip then looked at the drunken crowd. He knew they had gotten tired of his classical music. He needed to switch it up a bit.

"Hmmm.... you all seem bored. Lets get the energy flowing in here!" He said as the shot was placed in front of him. He took the shot and shook his head, it was probably a little to strong for him but he didn't care.

He placed his hands on the keys and started to play rather fast as if he were playing a guitar. It didn't matter cause it had made everyone happy. He played random notes from classical songs that he though would go good together. The crowd started to talk normally, some even got up and started dancing.

Annabelle steps off the elevator when her radio goes off. “Annabelle, we just got a call that F needs a cleaning.”

Annabelle walks to the closet and grabs the cart. She walks over to Penthouse F and knocks on the door politely. “Housekeeping.” She waits for the door to open.

The door opens and a gorgeous man with blonde hair and blue eye answers the door. “Finally I must have called about three minutes ago. Come on the bathroom needs cleaning.”

Annabelle takes a quick look around and sees two women in the bed. There are bottles of liquor some empty other still contain some fluid. She looks into the bathroom and there is vomit all over the place. She shakes her head. “Don’t worry, Sir I will have this cleaned up quickly.”

She goes back to the cart and grabs the proper cleaning materials along with an extra towel or two. She closes the bathroom door, for once thankful for her vampire speed. She does not want to be in this room longer than necessary. She uses her skills to quickly clean up the mess. Annabelle places the dirty linens in the correct place and replaces them with clean ones.

Annabelle finishes up loading up the cart. She returns it to the room. She puts the dirty clothes down the linen chute, thankful that she is not working laundry. She exits the room wondering what the rest of the night will bring.

Jason grinned for no apparent reason, at least to those around him. He was in the process of eating a muffin, in addition to searching the minds of everyone in the cafe, one at a time. It had become easy to collect information this way, and he already knew most of it. He thought about paying, but there were more important things to attend to.

"j'sais," he said, clearing the magic from his system. Then he started home, back to the books. The endless books and knowledge.

Annabelle gets a message from the dispatch. It seems that penthouse C needs to have their kitchen cleaned up from a party that just ended. She walks over to the penthouse and was just about to enter when a noise catches her sensitive ears. She looks over her shoulder and sees a handsome man entering penthouse B down the hall. He looks at her and smiles before entering his place.

The mess wasn’t all that bad, not as bad as the vomit she had earlier. She throws most of the dishes in the dishwashers, and washes the rest by hand. She wipes down the all the counters. It was a lot of work. She shakes her head. It is not fair. Here she and Alex are living in a dump about half the size of this kitchen…She shakes her head. No you mustn’t have these thoughts.

She is a little tired after cleaning the kitchen and just as she was leaving she got another call. It seems that Penthouse B is requesting some assistance. It seems they need to have a bedroom set up. Annabelle walks over to the penthouse and knocks on the door. The door opens when she knocks it. She steps in. “Housekeeping?”

She hears a male voice. “Oh yes it is the first room at the top of the stairs. I am having some guests spending the night.”

Annabelle’s keen hearing picks up on a little party going on. From the noises her ears are picking up, it seems they are having a real fun time. She goes up the stairs to the room. It is one of the fancier rooms that she ever seen. However the bed is unmade. There is a pile of linens at the foot of the bed though. As she makes up the bed her thoughts drift to the night she was turned. Her and her long time boyfriend had just finished well…when her friend called. The idiot she was on a date with left her and she didn’t want to walk home. She had a little to drink. Annabelle gives her guy one last kiss telling him she will be right back. She gets dressed and meets her friend outside the club. It was not too far away, so they decide to walk.

About halfway to her friend’s house Annabelle gets the feeling they were being followed. She catches something out of the corner of her eye. Soon both Annabelle and her friend were surrounded. The guys did not look normal. They had a feral look in their eyes. Her friend clings to her. Annabelle pushes her friend away as they were rushed, telling her to run and get help. Help that never came.

Annabelle was lost in her memories that she didn’t realize she was already done with the bed. She turns to leave the room where a man is blocking the door. He is wearing a luxurious red robe and has a wine glass in each hand. He looks at Annabelle “You must be new here, I haven’t seen you before. Would you like something to drink?”

Annabelle looks over at the man. She can smell the pheromones exuding from his body. She can also smell blood. She looks at the glasses the source of the smell. She looks up at him and sees his black eyes. A vampire. The scent of blood sends her body into turmoil. She can feel her fangs extending. She looks away from the man. “Sorry I am on the clock, I cannot partake in any beverages.”

The man takes Annabelle’s chin and tilts it toward him. He studies her closely. “Ahh you are a vampire too, but you hide it. Interesting…” He places the glass into her hand. “Please have a drink, there is no need to hide who you are with me.”

Annabelle couldn’t resist the blood any longer and takes a drink from the glass. She is instantly ashamed and sets the glass down. “I…have to get back to work.” She runs out of the room and down the stairs, leaving the penthouse.

The man simply laughs at her reaction. It will be up to him to teach her the glories of being a vampire. He calls down to the dispatch and makes a special arrangement starting the next day.

Alex finished his latest piano number in his long line of made up songs. The bar keep looked over at him and gestured Alex over. He looked at the crowd then to the bar keep. Alex let a sigh slip and then walked over to the bar.

"Look Alex you are a good kid an all but..." The bar keeper said.

"Oh no your firing me arn't you? I need this job man. I mean Even my sis has to take up a job just so that we can keep our apartment. Please man you can't do this to me!" Alex said being over dramatic and laying his head on the bar while holding on to the bar keeper.

"Will you lighten up already? I was gonna tell you that your shift ended 20 minutes ago. It is two in the morning. Go home. Get some rest. You look like you need it." The man said.

"Oh is that all? Heh well then... forget all that crap I just said." Alex said now sitting in a bar stool.

Alex got up and started to leave the now empty bar. He waved goodbye to everyone and made his way home. As he walked down the streets he saw all kinds of people who where together. Hardly anyone was by themselves any more, though Alex didn't care.

His trench coat swayed as he walked down the street. Alex got to the apartment and looked around to make sure he wasn't followed. Once he was sure he opened the door and walked in. Once the door was closed he fell onto the sofa and turned on the tv. He knew there was nothing more than news at this hour.

Alex wondered when Annabelle would get home. He got up and walked to the fridge and opened it up. He grabbed a blood pack and looked at the type of blood on it. He grabbed a glass and poured some into the glass and went back to the sofa. He set it down on a coaster then laid back down. He draped his right leg over the back of the sofa.

He folded his hands behind his head so that he was completely relaxed. He watched the news for a little while. He didn't really pay attention it was nothing but human politics as far as he was concerned. The only time he really wanted to watch was when Ezekiel was on. Even then he thought it was boring to hear about stuff that would never happen.

Before to long Alex had fallen asleep. He normally made it a habit to go out and have fun. Maybe bring some women home but this time he just felt exhausted.

Karla took a deep breath as she stepped over to the nonhuman district.

She could feel the looks that her uniform attracted, and it made her uneasy. It always did. She'd been doing this for years, and the hate never abated. Still, she straightened up, walking into the nonhuman district with as much authority as a human could muster.

There were two others with her, Anderson and Cartega, and she could hear Cartega's shuddering breath behind her. The boy was still relatively new, and was still scared to pieces by them. Frankly, Karla was too.

She and her crew made their way through the district, stopping near the center. All of the shops were gathered in a pack in the center, much like their mostly Were owners. Karla kept her hands off of her gun - she didn't need to alarm anyone.

"Let's keep going," she said to the boys. "Aaron keeps this place under control," she explained to Cartega. "We mostly only need to check in."

It was the darker parts of the district that were the issue - not only concerning crime, but vigilantism as well. Vigilante activity had been getting worse - no, what was she saying, vigilante was a favorable term. They were as good as terrorists. It was because of them that the nonhumans were getting even more restless, and should she find one she'd be more than happy to beat some sense into them.

[Attn: Annabelle]

He stood upon a rooftop adjacent to the target location: Golden Springs Deluxe. It had bright lights, a Victorian look and feel, and several penthouses. It was the perfect place for vampires and their megalomaniacal sense of entitlement.

"Fortitudo."

Immediately, he ran and leapt, easily making the distance and landing on the balcony of his quarry. "Lupus."

Instantly, everything heightened into sharper intensity, sounds, sights, smells. It was a party, apparently. He sniffed and instantly sussed out the humans from the suckheads. The balcony doors were open and he strolled casually in.

All eyes turned in his direction immediately. The job had called for only one vampire in particular; the arrogant one in the red velvet robe with the platinum blond hair and gray eyes and 5 o'clock shadow.

"I've come to deliver the ominous."

Immediately, he pulled out his crossbows and shot two vamps dead--and another two that reacted and tried to attack him behind their fallen brethren. One managed to make it to him with inhuman speed, but with the same speed, Thanatos swept his legs out from under him and gave him a roundhouse kick that sent him flying, finishing him off with a crossbow bolt.

By now, the humans were screaming and fleeing. Cowards. There were three vamps left, not including the primary objective. The bastard had the nerve to just sit back and be amused.

He aimed to shoot, but one of them had reached him and knocked his aim off. Immediately, Thanatos released both of his crossbows, and broke the offending arm that had dared touch him in three places before pulling out a knife and deftly decapitating the bloodsucker.

The other two were on him in an instant and what followed was a flurry of furious fists and feet. He deftly blocked a punch from one, spun and kicked the other in the stomach while simultaneously dodging the attack made on him from behind, then caught the other's punch and threw him over his shoulder toward the other. The other vamp toppled the other over and Thanatos immediately followed by throwing a grenade at them. They went to ash as the wooden shrapnel pierced their hearts.

A clapping of applause was revealed as silence descended on the room. The last vampire--his target--was applauding.

"Very good," he said in earnest. "It seems they sent a very good assassin after me this time. So, you've come to deliver the ominous, as you put it, eh? How about I triple what you were given to come for me and you come under my employ."

For answer, Thanatos rolled and reclaimed his crossbows and shot them at the bastard. His moves were lightning fast and he was behind Thanatos in an instant. Thanatos only had time to throw up his hands to defend himself from the blow that put him on the other side of the room where the vamp had been.

"Well," mused the vampire, "you're certainly not human. That blow would've broken both your arms and allowed me to rip your heart out. But I can't get a smell off of you, either. Masking it with those clothes? Very nice."

Thanatos' arms were tingling. This vampire was more powerful than your run of the mill. He must truly be an old one. Thanatos felt the tingling of something. Was it excitement? At what? The prospect of taking down an old master vampire. It must be so.

Annabelle had just exited the penthouse when she heard a commotion from within. Curious she opened the door and walked in quietly. She watches as a human starts to take out vampires. A vigilante, something she has always tried to avoid. One of the reasons why she disguises herself as a human.

She watches as the man from earlier applauds his would be assassin. He asks the young man to be under his employ. She has heard enough. She shakes her head and turns to leave the penthouse again. She had enough of this and only hopes that tomorrow she is not assigned penthouse duty.

Lucia opened the door to her apartment, walked as far as the couch, and collapsed on it. She had had the day off today and spent the whole time searching for leads on the demon. Once again, she had turned up empty-handed, only exhaustion to show for her efforts.

However, she would not - could not - give up. She needed closure, she would never be able to get over Tristan's death with that demon on the loose. And who knows how many people it's hurt or killed since it escaped; she felt it was her responsibility to deal with it. Of course, there was always the possibility that another Magus had caught it, but she hadn't been able to find info on that either.

She sighed and got up. She made herself a peanut butter sandwich and turned on the TV to see if anything had gone on in the city while she was out. It was all the same stuff, however, so she turned the TV back off and picked up the book she had been reading.

A book about Magi, that was the only kind of books she had read for the past 5 years. It was fascinating, and every book taught her something new. This particular one was about demon summoning and trapping, something Tristan had succeeded in several years ago, though it had really been more of a crap-shoot than skill. And he had paid for it.

[ATTN: Open]

Rai stalked the streets with several of his pack members, patrolling their turf for any intruders. The Night Strikers had been encroaching on their territory lately, and Rai's pack, the Bloodclaws, would be having none of that.

As they walked, Rai spotted some movement by a dumpster. He crouched low and headed toward it, quietly and ready for attack. However, the other Were had heard him coming anyway and jumped out, his posture clearly hostile. Rai stopped where he was; the other Were was clearly bigger than him.

"You're on Bloodclaw territory! Leave or face the consequences!" Rai exclaimed.

The other Were snorted. "I am from the Strong Pack. You dare mess with us?"

The Strong Pack. That threw a wrench into things. Even though he would love nothing more than to drive this guy away, messing with the Strong Pack could easily bring down their wrath on his whole pack. Rai's other pack members caught up and stood next to him.

"C'mon Rai," one said. "Let's go patrol elsewhere."

His shoulders fell, the tenseness leaving, and his posture changed to a more submissive one. He and his pack members veered toward the right and headed away from the other man.

His power was ferocious! Truly, this was a master vampire among master vampires. Thanatos deflected several of his punches and countered with a palm strike to the vamp's solar plexus. The blow landed solidly and the vamp crashed into the wall, leaving a giant crater.

He laughed. "Truly a remarkable assassin!" he said admiringly. "The silent efficiency, the coldness of death in your eyes! You should be a vampire if you're not already!"

He sped at Thanatos with a reckless speed and once more battle ensued. Thanatos deflected his right cross and countered with a backfist that the vamp ducked, spun, and retaliated with a spinning elbow that Thanatos leapt backward away from and charged back in. The master vampire grabbed him and Thanatos struggled against his might. The vamp sped with inhuman speed, ramming Thanatos into a wall, Thanatos kicked him in the crotch and returned the favor, ramming him through a wall and into another one. The vampire laughed gleefully.

"Marvelous!"

If this piece of shit was still human, Thanatos would've thought him a raving lunatic. The vampire headbutted him in the face, stunning him backward and was sent flying as he felt the vamp's foot kick him in the chest. He skidded across the floor, but before he could move, the vamp picked him up, spun him with inhuman speed and launched him through a wall!

He impacted and crashed into a maid that was speeding away from the penthouse, slamming her into the elevator doors with him on top. Immediately, he rolled to his feet and looked at the maid. Had the impact killed her? She couldn't possibly be in good condition after--

"Where's my play date?"

Wham! The vamp had taken advantage of his distraction by ramming into him and launching him down the hall. Thanatos flipped in mid-air and landed on his feet, skidding backward as he forced himself upright. The vamp charged him instantly, but learned better of his decision by the hook Thanatos placed on his charging midsection. From there, it degraded into a slug match.

They exchanged punches like boxers--body blows, hooks, crosses, uppercuts. Finally, Thanatos blocked his left, then his right, and returned the earlier favor by headbutting the bastard, following up with a double footed drop kick against the man's chest. It was the vamp's turn to fly across the hallway, finally ending with him smashing into a wall.

Immediately, Thanatos was on him with a stake to deliver the finishing blow. The several impacts that studded against his body armor staggered him off course. Bullets.

"Halt!"

"Freeze, asshole!"

The NCU. The vampire's bleeding face smiled up at Thanatos as he tapped his right ear, pointing out a small blue-tooth receiver.

"Gotta love modern technology," he said with a chuckle. "You're a right powerful bastard, but today's not my day to die, shadow walker. Ezekiel Barrows at your service."

Thanatos only registered mild surprise. They had sent him after that vampire? He hadn't bothered registering his prey, they had told him where he'd be and that he had a small window of opportunity. He had taken it without question--in the future, he might need to rethink his policy.

He leapt away as bullets passed through the air he had been at. He heard Ezekiel laugh triumphantly and through his stake at the vampire, feeling slight satisfaction when it was deflected downward and stabbed into the man's libido. He ran past the maid who was stirring--good, no collateral then--and immediately made for Ezekiel's suite, grabbing his crossbows, leaping off of the balcony, and disappearing into the night.

Will's gaze was fixed on the monitor of his computer while his fingers rapidly tapped at the keyboard. A few more keystrokes and he would be into the systems he was asked to hack. It was a modern kind of assault and Will wasn't even sure why he was carrying it out. He was the equivalent of a mercenary enticed by the offer of monetary compensation from a general who refused to divulge information. As long as the money kept coming, Will could accept that.

He smirked as he accessed the information he needed. This was not the time to launch a DDoS attack, according to the latest request. Will was relieved by that. No matter how many tricks he knew to get around being discovered, messing with the NCU was never a good idea.

He knew it was odd that, as a human, he was preparing to potentially launch an attack on the system of the Nonhuman Control Unit. He had never been particularly caught up in the conflict between humans and nonhumans, though. By nature, he was a loner and not invested in his 'side' in this conflict. He had mild fears of the nonhumans that could be triggered by sensational news reports about the abhorrent things some nonhuman allegedly did to someone's precious prepubescent son or daughter on his or her way home from school. Then, the next story would be about some woman who claimed to have given birth to the child of Buddha and he would conclude that the story about the nonhuman was slightly exaggerated at the very least.

He finished tonight's task within a couple of hours and took all the necessary measures to erase his footsteps. He typed a summary of his findings in a Word document and then skipped down to the next page and wrote a fake conversational letter to one 'Mr. Smith', asking him about his wife and kids. The messages always included a letter on top of the actual information in case someone were to hold the envelope to the light. Will always used opaque envelopes but he could never be too careful. His contact had sent him the first letter through the mail and Will thought that was safe. Email was never one hundred percent secure.

He printed his document and exited the program, clicking 'cancel' when prompted to save. He slipped the papers into an evelope, addressed it and tucked it under the keyboard, making a mental note to take it to the post office to mail out tomorrow.

Satisfied with the night's work, he got himself a beer from the fridge and flopped down on the couch, switching the channel to some true crime show.

{Attn:Open, Karla}

Alex was awoken when a NCU commercial blared at him. He sat up right looking around. He then looked over at the TV still blaring. He turned it off and dropped the remote. He laid back on the sofa when his stomach growled for food. He had barely taken a sip of the blood he poured for himself earlier.

He got up and walked into his room. It was rather messy with stuff thrown all over the place. The only thing that was easy to find was his wallet on the night stand. As he picked it up a photo fell out of his wallet. He picked it up and stared at the photo.

It was a photo of him with a girl. She had long black hair with one that hung over her face. She had big round glasses on. It was hard to tell that she had freckles on her face. Alex and the mysterious girl were smiling, they were obviously happy.

Alex heard a buzzing sound from behind him. He turned and threw a throwing knife killing a fly. He let out a sigh and grabbed the knife out off the wall. Alex put away the throwing knife and the photo. He glanced around at the mess, he could hear Annabelle's words ringing in his head about how he should clean up.

"Meh." He said getting a pencil and a piece of paper.

He wrote a note for Annabelle in case she got home while he was gone. The note read, "Gone out to get Chinese food. Will clean up after I eat. ~Alex." He left the note on the kitchen table then left. He closed the door behind himself.

Alex made his way to the non-human district, he knew a pretty good Chinese place there. He got there and got to go food. Alex paid for everything though he was really looking forward to payday on Friday. He saw a group of NCU people patrolling near by. He wish he had brought his hat with him. They looked pretty tense patrolling in this area.

He fished out a fortune cookie and walked over to them. "You look like you could use some luck." He said to Karla with a wink. He handed over the fortune cookie.

By the time she could react Alex had vanished. His picture had fallen out of his wallet and fell to Karla's feet. Alex made his way home not knowing he had lost the photo. He walked in not seeing Annabelle yet. He let out a sigh and crumpled up the note.

Alex tossed it away and opened his wallet to see the photo was gone. He set the food down on the table then fell into a chair. He looked paler than normal for a vampire. He couldn't believe that he had lost the one last thing that reminded him of the past. He rubbed his eyes and searched his jacket pockets but couldn't find it.

"Damn it!" He cursed aloud slamming his fist onto the table.

[ATTN: Toka, Open]

Karla was standing on guard near the border between the districts, watching people on both sides warily. If only nonhumans weren't so similar to humans, she might have an easier time determining which was which.

A man suddenly approached her with a fortune cookie, handing it over with a smile and a quip. Karla took the cookie, somewhat stunned; was he trying something? She reached for her baton instinctively, but the man had already left, leaving a photo behind him. No ulterior motive? How... pleasant.

Karla crouched down, picking up the photo cautiously. The same man who had approached her, with a young girl next to him, clearly happy. "Sir," she started, looking up, but the man had already disappeared.

She would have gone after him, but she felt her cell phone buzz in her pocket. She pulled it out, irritated, and flipped it open, shoving both the cookie and the photo into her pocket.

"Hello?"

“Rutherford, this is Rosen, we’ve got trouble.”

“Just tell me what happened,” she said with a sigh.

“We’re at the edge of the human district, at a hotel called Golden Springs, Penthouse B. Know where that is?”

“Yes, what’s happened? An attack?”

“Get over here, I’ll tell you while you’re moving.”

Karla sighed, and waved to Anderson and Cartega. They followed behind her as she crossed over into the human district, making for the hotel. “I’m waiting, Rosen.”

“Some vigilante found Ezekiel Barrows, tore his place up. I just sent my boys out to look for him, I’m going to join them once you arrive. We need to keep him under guard.”

“Ezekiel – Jesus,” Karla said, breaking into a run now. “How the hell did he find him? Hell, we can barely find him when we need him.”

“No idea. I doubt he did it on his own, someone probably hired him.”

“Fuck it. If the rest of the nonhumans hear of this…”

“They won’t. I’ll make sure. Hurry up,” Rosen said, almost whining.

Karla rolled her eyes, flipping her phone shut as she sprinted towards the hotel.

[ATTN: Annabelle]

Ezekiel hissed in pain at the vigilante’s parting blow. “That just isn’t fair,” he said, grabbing the stake and pulling it out of his tender regions with a gasp. He threw the stake to the side, looking over at the NCU officer talking frantically on his phone. The man had already ordered the rest of his boys out after the vigilante, but he doubted that they would find him.

He had to admire the man - he had some real moxie. But he hadn’t been working on his own – none knew his location, none except for his companions. He smirked suddenly. The game, apparently, was on.

He picked through the remains of the penthouse, frowning down at the bodies of the vampires. He had no real attachment to them, personally – frankly, they were a little annoying. He was glad, though, that his human companions had had the sense to run. They probably wouldn’t have survived this.

Ezekiel stopped as he saw a crumpled form. The maid, the vampire in disguise, and Ezekiel sighed, crouching down next to the body. No, wait, it wasn’t a body, she was still alive, just unconscious. He smiled, leaning back on his heels. Possibly injured. He reached down, picking up the girl and carrying her back into the main room. The NCU officer flipped his phone shut and turned to stare. “Shouldn’t you be standing watch, officer?” he said as he set her down on a table that was miraculously still standing. The man saluted nervously, taking the hint, and left the room to take up his post.

Annabelle had made it to the elevator when the fighting started again. Sounds like someone refused his offer. She was just about to push the elevator when something slams into her…After that she remembers nothing.

In the darkness Annabelle is taken back to when she was still human. “Lucie” she hears a voice say. She looks over and sees her old lover. She knows it is just a dream, but she can still enjoy it right? Too soon his image disappears and Annabelle begins to feel odd.

Her eyes flutter and she is on a really hard surface, obviously not her bed. “Al..exad...er, why am I on the table?” She tries to take a deep breath as she opens her eyes all the way. She sees the guys in the red robe from before. Only then remembering what happened. “You...what happened? Why am I here?”

Ezekiel gave her a smile. "Some vigilante nearly ran you over. You aren't injured, are you? I am sorry for the mess he made, how rude is that? Walking in and just destroying the place?"

He glanced around at the destruction. "But that's not important. How are you feeling?" Ezekiel smiled. She really was quite nice looking, and so young too. He couldn't even remember being that young.

Annabelle was about to answer when the chimes a clock somehow go off. Three in the morning!! She has to get going. She sits up quickly....a little too quickly and the room begins to spin. She lays down again trying to ignore it. "Nothing that some rest can take care of." She knows if she had been a human, she would be dead from the impact alone. Great now she will have to disappear again. So far she's been able to fly underneath NCU's radar, but now they will find out she's a vampire for sure.

"I just need to get home, don't worry I won't bother you again." She tries to sit up again her teeth clenching as she does. Alexander is going to kill her for this.

Lucia suddenly shot awake; there was a sharp pain her neck. She realized she had fallen asleep on the couch while she was curled up reading her book. She was in an uncomfortable position, which was why her neck was aching and woke her up. Her book was in her lap, her spot completely lost.

She sighed and got up, stretching her back out. She put her book on the coffee table, then glanced at the clock and saw that it was after 3am. She would have to get to bed and try to get some decent sleep because she actually had to work tomorrow.

She got ready and climbed into bed, quickly falling asleep.

[ATTN: Open]

Rai and his gang made their way back to their main base; it had been a quiet night and other than the one Strong pack member, there were no intruders in their area. They made their report to the pack leaders, Jarren and Tisha.

"Better to leave those Strongs alone," Jarren said, his booming deep voice carrying for everyone to hear. "Stay on their good side, stay alive."

"It's odd that we didn't see any Night Strikers this time, though," one of the patrollers who had been with Rai said.

"They might be getting ready to launch a full-scale attack," Rai said.

"You could be right," Tisha said. "With all the instability lately, they want all the territory they can get and the way they've been scouting us they probably think we'll be easy prey."

"We'll prove them wrong!" someone yelled.

"We don't know for sure that's the case," Jarren warned. "Go about business as usual. Don't provoke anything either. If they do decide to attack, we're more than enough for them."

Everyone agreed, and the meeting was adjourned. There were still a few hours left in the night, so a group of the younger Weres, including Rai, formed and goofed off for a while.

"No no no," Ezekiel said, pushing her back down. "You need to rest. Feel free to stay a while, relax. I'll make sure your boss doesn't mind." He knew the owner of the hotel well - it was why he was allowed to use this penthouse for free.

Karla, meanwhile, raced into the hotel and up to Penthouse B, shoving in through the door with Anderson and Cartega behind her. She nearly ran into Rosen standing guard, and he gave a sigh of relief.

"I'm gonna see if we can get a team after that vigilante," he said. "The creep is up to you."

"He can probably hear you, you know," Karla commented.

"Yup!" Ezekiel chimed in, almost too cheerfully. "Are you my new guards? You know, this really isn't necessary."

"You're safety is too important, Mr. Barrows," Karla said, walking up to where Ezekiel was and only glancing at the girl on the table. "Heaven knows the world doesn't need to know about our near-miss today."
