Time Keepers

Legend:
Long ago the gods of Greece wanted to reward their favored humans, those that had shown unshakable loyalty to them, by giving them immortality and the ability to move through time. The one rule was to never change the past or tell anyone in the future who they were. Most were so overwhelmed with the gift that they honored that one rule and never tried to change anything. They enjoyed the freedom to see the past, the lengths that humanity had come over time or to see how much more advanced the world would become. There were some over time that became unhappy with only watching. They saw people that became evil and hurt others, they thought they could go back and change that person before they hurt anyone. Some thought they would just kill the evil one and save the world from one more bad person. Others went back and changed mistakes they had made in the past. These became the Deceivers.

These events drastically changed the future. The gods saw this and most wanted to get rid of those with their gift altogether. Athena, the goddess of wisdom, realized that they could not punish all for the mistakes of the few. She told the other gods that she would claim control of those with the gift, they relented. She went to the good ones and beseeched them for their help. She charged them with the responsibility of stopping the Deceivers before they could change the past or influence the future. These that accepted the task became the Time Keepers. Some Keepers discovered they had a special talent, the ability to see the future actions of the Deceivers. They could tell when and where they would go back to and what they would do to change things. They were called Oracles. So the fight continues between the Keepers and the Deceivers. The future of humanity depends on the strength of the Keepers.


Vocabulary:

Keeper: immortal gifted with the ability to travel through time, to any place; has specific rules that must be followed while in a different time; track down and arrest Deceivers

Deceiver: former Keeper that broke the rules about time travel for either their own gain or to change events; even if they believe it is for the better good of humanity (kill the rapist before he rapes the girl, take out Hitler before he becomes powerful, etc) they become Deceivers; ANY messing with past events or abusing knowledge of the future is considered breaking the law. Usually, they do not choose to become a Deceiver, but once they lose their Keeper status, they are on the run and most will keep breaking this law, for their own reasons.

Fade: The common name for how they travel through time; they fade in and out with focus on where and when they would like to go.

Rules:

Four Levels of Keepers:

-Novice: spend 3-5 years on this level; learn the basics about their powers and the laws; no participation in actual jobs/missions

-Apprentice: spend 3-5 years on this level; actually go out on missions/jobs with Master Keepers

-Senior: spend 3-5 years on this level; lead missions with Master Keepers as back-up for 2 years; after that, they go on their own jobs but must remain in consistent contact with the Master Keeper mentor. After each job, they meet with their mentor and go through the events, discuss strategies, mistakes, and good points.

Master Keeper: Begin to go on more complex and dangerous assignments on their own or in pairs, depending on the situation.

Oracles: born into Keeper families, only a few in existence. They can see some of the Deceivers future actions, where and to what time Deceivers with fade to, and occasionally even what they will do. Not just any Keepers can become Oracles, they must be born with the gift. All working Oracles are Senior and Master level only. They must go through the first two levels first before they can be working Oracles.


-There is a Chancellor that leads the Keepers. Elected by the Keepers, all levels including retired. No serving minimum or maximum. Can resign whenever they like and either return to being Master Keepers or join the Board and/or Council.

-The Board: helps the Chancellor manage the Keepers, Deceiver profiles and whereabouts, and keeps a system of checks and balances on the Chancellor. Have the ability to remove Chancellor from office with a unanimous vote. Seven (7) members consisting of retired Master Keepers and former Chancellors. Must be retired.

-The Council: responsible for the trial and sentencing of the Deceivers caught by Keepers. Five (5) members which always include the Chancellor, 2 current Master Keepers, and 2 retired Master Keepers.


-Keepers can have relationships and families. Children born of Keepers or Deceivers decide at the age of 18 whether they will become Keepers or stay human, aging and dying normally. If they decide to stay human they can still stay with their families and be part of their lives, they are just not immortal and cannot jump through time. If they choose to become Keepers they stop aging when they reach the rank of Senior Keeper, usually between 24-26 years of age. A child born into a Keeper family has until the age of 24 to make the choice to become Keeper or not.

-Deceivers' children are technically Keepers until they choose to break the laws. Some Deceivers' children find the Keepers and join with them once they are old enough to choose. Its rare, but not unheard of.

-Can have relationships with humans (for drama) if you want, Athena might be understanding enough to allow a human to become a Keeper or let your character become human again, we’ll have to see. You can also have a character that is human and involved with a Keeper or Deceiver.

-They can "retire" whenever they want. They do begin to age when they retire, but at a very slow rate, living maybe another 75-100 years afterward. If they want they can become part of the Board and/or Council.


-Not all Deceivers bad, some just trying to keep bad people from hurting others. You can start as a Keeper and turn to a Deceiver.

-Keepers last resort is to kill the Deceivers, ideal solution is to bring them back to the present and hand them over to Chancellor and Council.

Description/Picture: Althetic build. Her hair is naturally blonde, but she keeps it a vibrant red now. Bright blue eyes.

Bio: She was married to a human once, when she was 111 years old she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, whom she was sure was destined to follow her. Her husband got paranoid about her life and tried to kill her, succeeding in killing her baby, but put Lilith in a coma. Viktor was the first one to find her, a damager, the badest of the badest. He took her home with him, taking care of her for three years. Once she awoken he convinced her to carry out her revenge. She went back home, to live with her friend, but finally word of her husband reached her. He had remarried and had a family of his own. Inraged at this she went after him, despite the pleading from her friend. She killed all of them. Her husband and his wife. Only finding out afterwards that his wife was pregnant. Ever since then shes been with Viktor. following him around. Shes the first one to volunteer for a job, as long as its male shes killing and not a female.

She has a love/hate relationship with Viktor. Her personality is cold, very sarcastic, and seductive. She is very ruthless, but as stated above won't harm a woman unless there is no other choice.

Description/Picture: Althetic build. Short black hair. His eyes are so dark they almost appear to be black.

Bio: No one is quite sure what drove him to become a Deciever, some say that he was just born evil. He was an orphan at the age of 13, and the deaths of his parents is still open for investigation. Some claim that he did it himself, but as distraught as he was when it happened it has been thrown out.

50 years ago he did something that no Deciever had managed to do, he killed a Chancellor's wife. The news had shocked the people, and ever since they have been searching for him. No one that has come into contact with him has lived to tell about it.

He has a love/hate relationship with Lilith, and his motives are unclear.

Description/Picture: She is very slim, and almost frail looking. Her hair is the same pale blonde as her sisters, but her eyes are a honey brown instead of blue.

Bio: Being very close to her sister, Lilith's betrayal left a deep hole in Kaci. She became withdrawn and barely speaks to anyone unless she must. She takes her job very seriously, and sometimes has to be forced to sleep. She wants desperately to find her sister, but is afraid of what she might find if she does. If it wasn't for the few close friends she has, she most likely would have had a mental break down by now.

Description/Picture: Short blond hair, blue eyes, athletic build. Business suits and a very put together appearance. Rarely stressed, always calm and collected, he is a fair Chancellor, but strict, holding the Keepers to high standards. He is an approachable boss and highly respected.

Bio: One of the first to be given the gift from the gods. He's only been the Chancellor a short time as the previous stepped down/retired after several decades. Had been married but his wife, Jessica, was killed by an evil Damager 50 years ago. Her death had nearly caused him to retire, but his daughter, Savannah, had convinced him to keep going on his path to Chancellor. He is still hunting that Deceiver, Viktor.

Bio: Was close to her mother and was the oracle that got the vision that sent her mother to the past, where she died. She feels very guilty about it and has thrown herself into her work as a result, trying to prevent the death of another Keeper. She doesn't have much of a social life, though her friends try to get her to go out or date.

Description/Picture: Short, blond, blue eyes. Wears tight fitting and revealing clothes.

Bio: Mom was keeper, dad was human, after her mother was pregnant she told her dad about who and what she was, he freaked out and left her. After she had the baby she stayed depressed and killed herself. Devon grew up with the pity of the other keepers, was raised by her aunt, Sirena. By the time that she became immortal and trained to be a Keeper, she was sick of the pity and rules, so she left. She was never cut out to be a Keeper anyway, she had bigger, better ideas of what to do with her powers. Her favorite past time is to break up marriages in the past, therefore creating ripple effects of people that then don't exist in the future as they were never born. She is quick and has never been caught.

Bio: She didn’t know her parents at all. She was abandoned by one, a keeper when the other parent died. Maresca grew up with her ‘Uncle’ another Keeper. Whether it is her blood uncle she does not know. Maresca loves the ability to travel through time. She is trying to travel to where she can see her parents to find out who they are. Officially she is a ‘Keeper in Training’ but only because of her ‘uncle’s’ influence. She doesn’t know what will happen if she ever finds her parents. She pretty much stays neutral in the Keeper vs Deceiver war. She can see some of the outcomes of the deceivers are good.
