Alassia pushes open the doors to her parents private chambers, not caring of the hour. "HOW DARE YOU!" She yells waking them out of their slumber. "How dare you set me up with an idiot like that. He is a disgrace to the Elven race as a whole. If you insist on trying to find a husband for me, I would appreciate at least some thought behind it."

The woman blinks and looks at her daughter. "Dear we do, but you have refused every prospect we have presented. You have earned the reputation of being difficult."

Alassia scoffs "Me, difficult. Just because I won't allow myself to go to the highest bidder? Because I am not complacent and meek....because I have a brain that I actually use? Please do not set me up anymore. I cannot stand to waste anymore of my time."

The man stirs, but does not look at Alassia. "Maybe if you were more like your sister, we wouldn't have to set you up. You are in marrying age, and a daughter of a noble no less. You are lucky we are not choosing your mate for you. If it was my choice you would not only be married, but with an heir."

She looks sharply at her dad. "And that is why I refuse to let you interfere with my life."

With that she storms out of the room, her shadow closely following. She storms to her room, pausing outside her door. "Good night Dessen." Then she plows through the door and slams its. She throws off her clothes, leaving them where they lie. Why should she care, the servants will pick them up in the morning. She puts on her pajamas and retreats into her bed.

Essentia sighs, her eyes almost rolling as her sister storms off. She turns to leave, stepping outside of the house and looking out into the nature around her. She shakes her head, wondering what to do.

What will she do when the try to marry her, next? Should she do as they ask? She's always wanted true love....but that is not what interests her family, or the needs that they have for her. So the question is: Can she make herself happy, or everyone else happy?

She walks back in after pondering this for a while and then slowly makes her way to her sister's door. Hesitantly, she knocks on the door and speaks her name.

"Alassia....it's me." Her twin says meekly, "May I come in?"

Alassia was sitting on her bed looking out her patio style windows. She had them open, the wind dancing with the sheer curtains. She hears the slight knock on her door. Alassia knows it is Essentia even before she spoke. Alassia wipes the tears from her eyes and calls for her dear sister to enter.

Essentia looks at her twin with a sweet smile as she enters slowly and gracefully, as well as patiently. She moves to her sister and hugs her before separating from her and sitting across from her.

"Sister....may I ask if you are well? You seem so upset." Essentia asks kindly with concern.

Alassia holds her sister closely. "I wish I was free from them. I am a person, not a bargaining chip. Maybe they are right and I should be more like you. You seem so happy all the time."

She stands and walks over to her window. "I just know there is more out there, and I don't want to settle. Maybe I should just leave..." She hangs her head letting her thoughts trail off

Essentia giggles, a mischievous glint in her eyes. She leans down towards her twin to whisper in her ear. "Then...why don't you and I...and our companions, of course....go? We can go together! Who needs those who would use us? I'd follow you anywhere, Alassia."

Essentia hugs her sister and then giggles again, taking her hands in hers.

Alassia looks down from the edge and sees the guards walking around. "And just how do you suppose we get past them?" She pulls Essentia over. "Ever since the 'disagreements' with the dark nation they have doubled."

Alassia smirks at Essentia. "Can you imagine Dad's expression if I brought home someone from Dark." She chuckles softly. "Or would that be over doing it?"

She gets a serious look in her eyes. "OK our mission is to find out what the guards schedules are. That way we can break free of our prison. Do you think you can turn on the charm with them? They would never believe it if I did. I will start planning our escape route."

Essentia looks at her twin with wide eyes and stutters as her face pales. "I-I'm not sure. What will I say? What could possibly convince them...? I'm not very good at this, am I? And I'm the one who suggested this..."

Alassia smiles at her sister and touches Essentia's face with her hand. She tilts Essentia's face so their eyes meet. "You don't have to do anything special. Just be your sweet self. Ask questions about what times they get off. I will also be observing their patterns too.

I have the utmost faith that you can do this. You are the nicest person I know. Our escape relies on knowing where they will be at what times." Alassia smiles at her sister.

Essentia smiles as she nods her head shyly, "Okay, sister...I can do it. No problem! I'll just go mingle!"

She heads out immediately and moves out towards the grounds, humming a sweet tune and readying to ask a lot of questions about how her protectors are doing and just how well their families are doing...

Alassia laughs “Please get some rest first. The stakeout can wait until morning dear sister. I don’t know about you, but I am a little hungry. The idiot they set me up with made me lose my appetite. What about you? Want to raid the kitchen with me?”

As she flew, Aeshira soon spotted a village below her. It was a pretty big village, much bigger than hers. She flew down and landed outside it, behind a big, fancy house that was sitting on the outskirts.

Now that she had landed, however, she had no idea what to do next. She hadn't really thought that far ahead. She looked around, trying to see if there was anyone around there she could talk to.

Oh, yeah. Nothing like a little patience to get the job done. Some well placed birds had ensured the sentries had gone right where she wanted them. She looked down upon them from her vantage in the tree. They had been searching for her for days, now, and the wear was starting to show--on them. They had only thought themselves ready for a forest siege. It had been two weeks, now, and she had taught the lot of them better. However, it was no time to be smug.

They had a massive transport going even as she nested here above her enemy. She had no idea if the rest of her unit was alive--not the first time. All the other nearby units had been slaughtered, their patterns and codes extracted from the soldiers so that they could imitate and keep the rest of the Light realm in the dark. She smirked at the unintended pun.

She had tried to send a few messenger pigeons, but all of them had been intercepted. These b*stards watched the skies relentlessly for any stray communications. She was all alone. Again, not for the first time.

The heart of this contingent lay in the groups of sorcerers that were doing the transporting. They'd need to be taken out so they couldn't amass any more for this small army. But even there they were smart. The force was too large for her to have a chance to slip in--they had mages doing the guarding. So she had to bide her time while she thought of a way around that.

In the meantime, the rest of the contingent had broken off into smaller clusters. Whether that was wise or not, she was unsure. She had been unable to pin down their plans.

She glanced down below at her prey, and threw an acorn at a nearby bush. The guards almost leapt a foot in the air. They were nervous, tired. She had been picking at their unit for days.

"C--come out, you b*tch!" one of them growled, using anger to try and fight off his fear. "I'll make sure you get what fooooooooor!"

Bingo! He had walked right into her rope trap, being flung upside down with a vine attached to his ankle. The other guy began running and that's when she pounced.

She landed on his shoulders and he crumpled, instantly dazed, and she took the opportunity to stab him in the kidney. He went tense, then fell limp. Immediately, she grabbed the crossbow the "Wood Elf" had been holding. She took aim and fired. Immediately, the other one stopped screaming and went still. She'd have to move quickly; that idiot's screaming would've alerted the others.

She immediately took to stripping the men of their gear--chainmail, crossbows and bolts, knives, short-swords, rations--wrapping and stuffing them in the sack she had prepared. By the time anyone reached the area, she had managed to loot them and return to the treetops.

"D*mmit!" growled one of the newcomers, a dryad. "Whoever they are, they're good..."

Renee smirked. They, indeed. She loaded a bolt into the loaded crossbow, aimed, and fired. Dead on target, the dryad fell dead as the bolt plunged itself into the area where her neck and spine connected.

"We're under attack!"

"It came from over there!"

She pulled the rope and another crossbow bolt launched from thirty feet to the north of her position. She had prepared this spot very carefully.

Immediately, the troupe took for cover--Two dark elves, a garuda, and one of the bird-folk. The bird-folk male spoke up.

"I'll take to the treetops and get a--RAAAAAAWK!"

The other crossbow bolt she had prepared took care of that idea. He fell back to the ground with the bold sticking through his heart.

"Regroup! Regroup!" called one of the dark elves.

"Wait!" called one of the garudas. "Do you smell that?"

"We don't have time for--"

"Up here."

Immediately, they all looked up to see Renee hanging off a branch. Immediately, one of the garudas began drawing their bow. Renee cocked her head and held up the torch.

"Bad idea," she said, dropping the torch.

She rolled backward, narrowly avoiding the arrow that whizzed past where her head had been--he was a good shot. She flipped herself to the tree limb before her right as the torch hit the ground. Immediately, the area went up in a bonfire. They all screamed and writhed as the flames licked and consumed them.

She grimaced as she worried the fire might get out of control, but the forest was still wet from the rain, and not too long after, the flames burned to completion. She sighed in relief.

Her trap had worked well--too bad their remains would have little of use, now. All that was left was to take inventory and prepare for the late night when she would finish this unit off. It'd be the third one she'd taken down.

Alassia doesn't give Essentia a chance to answer as she drags her twin to the kitchen. Dessen in tow. She makes herself a plate and does the same for her. "We can see what the night shift is up to." She tells Essentia with a smile. "Now I need you to play along."

After Alassia ate, she makes up another plate. This one she gives to Essentia. They walk side by side. Alassia shakes her head. "Essentia, I don't know about you they are guards, meat shields, mind you. There is no reason for you to be feeding them." She winks slyly at her sister.

Essentia giggles playfully, shaking her head with disagreement. "No, no, Alassia. They are more than just that. Besides, I want to. You of all people know what it's like to work on an empty stomach. The only difference is that your work is diplomatic. Theirs isn't."

She strings one of her arms under Alassia's arm and tilts her head on her twin's shoulder as she walks with her, speaking as sweetly as ever.

A hint of a smile appears on Alassia's face at Essentia. This is going to be so easy. He** they may be able to sneak out tonight. "You are too kindhearted dear sister. However you do have a point." She stops Essentia suddenly. "I have another idea. How about we make it look like we were taken? That way they will be waiting for a ransom note and everything." She takes Essentia back to the kitchen. I am sure we can find something here that will make them drowsy.

We will drug them, pack while it takes effect, mess up our rooms a bit, and then leave. How does that sound?"

Essentia nods her head eagerly, her eyes wide with decision. "Yes, of course! I'd like to bring my chamber maid, if that's all right. Otherwise, yes, I'm so ready to do this, so long as we're doing it together."

Essentia giggles yet again, moving in time with her as they head to the kitchen.

Alassia picks out the ingredients "Of course you don't think I am going anywhere without Dessian do you?" She gives the plates to Essentia and puts some in her arms. She winks at her sister. "I don't know why I allow you to drag me along with your silly ideas." She says as they walk through the halls.

They greet the guards on the outside of the house who gladly take two of the plates. They point out the guards at the gate. After all the guards had their plates. Alassia takes Essentia's arm. "We have about 10 minutes before they go asleep. Go pack and meet me in my room."

Aeshira started to walk around the side of the house and peeked around the corner. She saw a pair of girls bring out food to the guards in front of the house, then go back inside. These guards looked pretty strong to her, so she thought maybe they could help her with her village.

She walked out to them and opened her mouth to say something, but was rudely interrupted by one of the guards.

"Intruder!" he yelled. "How did you get in past the gate?!"

"I flew in, of course," she replied. "Can I ask you for some help?"

"The only help you'll be getting is out of here and in jail!" another guard said unkindly.

"But what did I do?" Aeshira asked, confused.

The guards then began to run at her, so she turned and started to run away from them. When she found they were closing in on her, she quickly flew up above them.

"Please! I need your help with my village!" she pleaded.

One of the guards pulled out a bow and fired an arrow at her, which she was able to dodge. This went on for a while, until suddenly the guards dropped to the ground. Aeshira gasped and flew back down to the ground. She went over to one of the guards and checked to see if he was still alive. He apparently was, he just seemed to be sleeping.

"What's going on?" she asked no one in particular. "This place is strange..."

Both girls pack up and mess up their rooms. They and their companions wait for the guards to fall asleep. Alassia watches from her balcony. She sees the guards fall to the ground. "Well Essentia, ready to go? Just think we will not have to answer to no one anymore!"

Alassia takes her hand and her bag and races down stairs, their companions following. They walk out the gates and take the road away from the city. Away from everything they have ever known, and into a whole new life. Alassia could not be more excited.

Aeshira began to shake the guard, to see if she could wake him up. Suddenly, she heard the door to the building open, and when she looked up she saw several people walk out. They paid no notice to her, but not knowing what else to do, she began to follow them.

She followed them out through the gates and down a road. As they walked, she realized they were moving away from the city. Curiously, she kept following them.

Alassia and Essentia continue to walk and they enter the forest. Dessian takes the lead. He is fully alert and aware. Essentia is holding onto Alassia's arm tightly. Alassia is a bit scared too, but does not let her sister know that. She thinks she hears something behind her and looks over her shoulder. She does not see anything, must have been an animal or something. "Dessian, how does everything look up there?"

"Just fine ma'am." He says keeping his vigilant watch.

Alassia nudges Essentia. "Only if all men were like that. He doesn't say much, but he is da** effective."

Aeshira continued to follow the people, but she stayed off to the side where she wasn't as easily seen. After the way those guards had acted, she didn't know if these people would do the same or not. However, she did want to see if they would help her with her village, so she stepped out onto the road, still a ways behind them.

"Um, hello!" she called. "Pardon me, but could I ask you all for some help?"
