Persona: Metamorphose

Verolino is a densely populated city, known for its impressive architecture, standard of education and its bustling downtown area. Its historic south end is the favoured location of the city's wealthier families and Victorian architecture while the upper west side is home to slums and public housing. The east side is favoured by college students, as the prestigious Traherne University is located in the area. John Brooke High School is in the northeastern part of the city. George Agnew Elementary School is near the high school. The downtown area is the location of various restaurants, shops, cafes, nightclubs and a two floor mall.

The area is prone to heavy rain and thunderstorms. It's rumoured that on rainy nights, you can see your own death if you stare into a blank TV screen at midnight... but that's just a silly rumour, right? One thing that's for certain is that for those who receive the power of Persona, the TV will become the gateway to another world and perhaps even the key to the fate of their own.

Rules:

1) Follow the GtR rules!

2) No godmodding or metagaming.

3) Your Persona can be any mythological figure or well known literary figure (i.e. Oberon, Titania). It should reflect your character's personality/situation in some way.

4) Because of the Social Link system, there will be a rather significant sandbox portion of this RP; players are welcome to create their own subplots with each other.

5) Activity and participation will be rewarded; the more you develop your Social Links and character(s), the more power your Persona will gain.

6) With the exception of a couple of characters for plot reasons, everyone will awaken to their Persona during the first part of the RP.

7) I will PM you your Persona's moveset after you've signed up; you're welcome to state a preference for the types of moves you would prefer (healing, support, physical, elemental, etc).

8 ) You may have up to two characters.

9) Any questions should be directed to the RPM (moi, sagiri) or the RPHs (Anghel and Kiseki).

I'll just note that this is most likely going to involve an intermediate to advanced level of roleplaying. That isn't to say that beginners are unwelcome, but simply that it could be a bit daunting because it's not going to be completely linear or have a ton of guidance. Players will have to take initiative at times.

So, what is a Persona? A Persona is a manifestation of one's personality. Once a Persona user awakens to his or her Persona ability, the Persona can be summoned to aid the Persona user in battle against Shadows. As an individual grows as a person, their Persona grows and changes with them. They even have the potential to change forms.

Personas grow through battle experience and through Social Links. By forging strong relationships with others, one's Persona gains strength. They are summoned with a gunlike object called an 'Evoker', which will be received after the character awakens to their Persona.

A few notes about Personas:
-Your Persona can be summoned outside of the TV world, but this is obviously not recommended unless necessary.

-Your Persona's power is not infinite; each move the Persona makes has a cost to the user. Physical attacks such as slashing, piercing or bashing will cause a small amount of physical harm to the user, which can add up. Magic based attacks such as elemental moves or healing will tax the user's mind and spirit until they are too exhausted to use their Persona. There are items that can be found in the TV world to speed up recovery time, but they aren't common.

What are Shadows? A shadow is a monster that is found inside the TV world. They have varying forms and power levels and seem to be more active when it rains. Storms really rile them up.

What is a Social Link? A Social Link is, as its name implies, a relationship with another person. Social Links are necessary for a Persona to reach its full potential. Friends, lovers and even enemies of the Persona user will count toward their Social Links. The stronger these bonds become, the more powerful one's Persona will be.

A few notes about Social Links:
-Shallow interactions and small talk do not count toward Social Link development.

-Social Link development is vital to strengthening your Persona; if your character fails to develop meaningful relationships with others, their Persona will not get more powerful.

-Before each major battle, Personas will be able to 'level up'; if you've worked on Social Links, your Persona will get at least one new move or at least one of their existing moves will become stronger.

-Quality is as important as quantity; one strong Social Link is equal to several casual ones.

What is the TV World and how do we enter? The TV World gets its name because it's a separate dimension that seems to be entered by crawling through the TV. Its only inhabitants are Shadows and it bears a slight resemblance to the city of Verolino, although only certain buildings are accessible at certain times.

Each TV is a different entrance and will deposit someone in a different part of the TV World. For that reason, it's wise to always enter through the same TV, preferrably with at least one other person. Most of the characters will involuntarily enter for the first time during the RP, before they awaken to their Personas. The TV world can only be entered when it's raining.

Personality: He has been picked on for his albinism his entire life and thus he tends to be quiet, but overall he doesn't let it get him down. He projects an image of someone who is comfortable in their own skin and shrugs off the teasing, though on the inside he is insecure. He tries to surround himself with people who accept him to make himself feel better about it. He is very loyal to the friends he does have and would do anything for his family.

Backstory: Heath is the only son of a successful business owner. His father is very driven and concerned with how others percieve him, which has resulted in him being extremely rigid, controlling and generally hard on Heath. Backstory: Alexander was born to a single mother and never met his father. When he was seven, his mother got married. Her husband wasn't a kind man and after seeing his mother end up with someone like that, Alexander put up a wall around himself. When he got older, he ended up dating an emotionally volatile woman. That relationship ended badly, causing Alexander to become more wary of others. He currently teaches high school biology and has a reputation for being a bit of a difficult teacher.

He awoke to his Persona ability when he accidentally got sucked into the TV world at eighteen. He met Flint, who is currently his teaching assistant, there and the two have been friends since.

Personality: Flint seems like a generally good person on the surface, but in reality has issues feeling empathy for others. He tends to value socialization only when he can gain a benefit from it and can be cruel if necessary.

Backstory: Flint lived with his mother, father, and older sister until he was thirteen years old, when he murdered his sister. Flint was convicted for the crime, but was acquitted after a long trial as a result of his successful attempt to frame his uncle. Although Flint was not found guilty, his parents knew better and couldn't bear to raise him knowing what he had done. They sent Flint to live with his cousin in Verolino, where he accidentally entered the TV world two years later and met Alexander.

Currently, Flint is a graduate student in biochemistry at the university while working as Alexander's teaching assistant. On the side, he has been investigating the TV world along with Alexander.

Personality: Rhys is incredibly energetic and usually very cheerful. He can be quite reckless and enjoys physical activities much more than any academic activities, the latter of which he often finds difficult.

Backstory: Rhys has lived in Verolino with his parents, four younger siblings, and one older sibling his whole life, though the oldest has recently moved out. Ever since he was young he has been friends with Heath and he quickly became friends with Shiro after the boy moved to the city.

She's one tall girl, and tall is an understatement. The 6'8 behemoth of a girl has long arms and even longer legs, good for running, and her hands are very large as well, earning her the nickname "Felix Long Legs", as she is a very protective teenaged girl. She wears one-sided heavy armour over a long green dress, with her dominant arm and shoulder completely free of any protection (to allow for maximal flexibility), and happens to be armed with a freakishly large long bow and two crossbows, with a quiver slung around her back and bolt holsters across her hips.

As a noble, she had access to the most designer of fashions and the most expensive of makeups, but not much was needed to make her look beautiful, what with all of her parent's good genes. Golden locks and blue eyes apparently ran in the family, as she had both. Luxurious lips finished off her face as did a well-shaped nose and small ears, though the ears looked out of place on such a large body. Her eyes had an intense focus to them, as if they didn't know anything else but to focus.


Personality: Felix is still young and has so much life ahead of her. Despite this, she has such a drive to live in the now, and she enjoys the now so much. Her life is driven by what she enjoys, and she excels at them so much that she has never known failure... which should change soon, and her brattiness then shows itself. She is a horrible loser and annoys the ones around her immensely. The soft side shows in front of... well, anyone she thinks will be able to contain her. She knows that she can bounce off the walls, but there will come the day that the guy (or the gal, she rolls that way) who can control her will come... and like a bronco, she will not be tamed.

Backstory: Felix was born in San Francisco, a surrogate child to a gay couple. However, unlike most of the girls who would enjoy being showered with pink clothes and other girly delights like dresses and My Little Pony, she idolized female heroines like Katniss and Mulan. She honed her skills early on, being as swift as a coursing river with all the force of a great typhoon AND the strength of a raging fire. This isolated her with her doll-playing peers and the boys of her classes, who feared her fury. This often made her a mystery to both her peers and her teachers, kind of like the dark side of the moon.

Her parents both enjoyed San Francisco 49er's Football, and she did as well. Soon, however, a promotion moved all of them to the town of Verolino, which had its own varsity football team that Felix followed religiously. Picking up the sport along with archery (which she had done since she was four), she became a quarterback for her high-school team and while she wasn't allowed to play too often, the downs she got were pivotal in her team's wins. Her sophomore year was much better, as the starter had graduated and she graduated to starting quarterback, with her team's season on the fringe of perfection at this time.

The archery that she did started off slow... though she quickly picked it up, she had trouble at the beginning with focus. Her teacher was... a little creepy and had come onto her strongly. That is, until he took an arrow to the knee creeping up on her. Soon, she got a new teacher and began excelling with the focus that she needed (realizing that bows were dangerous if fired improperly). Her first competition, she had beaten all the other little kids (and hit the only bullseye of the tourney), which elated her. Since then, she has chased the thrill of victory, not losing any competition that she had competed in so far.

As for his family they were killed in a tragic car accident he was left as a orphan till he started elementary and lived with one of his teachers after that he's been moving form dorm to dorm.

Personality: Quiver is one of the few quirky people that Felix seems to like in this school. She is a confused, naive little girl who looks up to all of her friends to help her grow as a person. Quiver enjoys archery, and though she be little, she be fierce as well, becoming one of the best archers in the school (though not as good as the seniors or Felix).

Backstory: Unlike most characters, Queen "Quiver" Polaris is one of the most normal children you will ever meet... save for her quirks, she has had a relatively quiet, normal upbringing by two loving parents and is middle-class. She dresses like she talks, with no focus whatsoever, and is known to be a little... off-kilter sometimes.
