Pitch Space. Empty Pitch Space.

Galaxy Class Ship Talladega was launched on its maiden voyage. Its mission: exploration and colonization. It was to find an Earth-class planet and colonize it, using the carried resources to establish a colony and return the ship. The crew, consisting of humans and gargoyles, were put in suspended animation until the scanning protocols came across a suitable planet. They were the hope of an Earth that was overpopulated and resources having been drained. It was not to be.

In passing through a star cluster, several of the stars there had solar flares that bombarded the ship, overloading its sensors and shielding and knocking the control mechanisms off course. As a result, the ship entered a planet and crash-landed. Several of the men, women, and gargoyles didn't make it and the ship and its cargo were critically damaged. Worse, the planet's atmosphere wasn't breathable.

Ingenuity saved them and with rebreathers and hard work, they patched the ship's hull and began creating a colony using it as the base--the ship would never be able to fly again. The planet, though atmospherically unsuitable, was a resource goldmine with a weird idiosyncrasy: A four hour dusk. During this time, the planet's gravitational pull became non-existent. If this had been the only problem, it might've been workable, but there was another issue.

During this dusk, vicious, hideous creatures would come out. For blood. If not for the gargoyles, these creatures might've overwhelmed them. Soon, it was discovered that there were bones and remains of other ships, giving both the information that life on other planets did, indeed, exist but that the ones that had come here hadn't survived.

That was two generations ago. Through much toil, the colony was completed. However, due to the creatures, called the Folk, getting more resources than what strictly they can survive on has been an impossibility. And until now they have lacked the manpower to begin looking into this.

Implants/Technology: Solar implant-the mechanism for what causes stone hibernation has long since been studied and identified. The implant allows for a gargoyle to resist stone hibernation and enter it on their own, as well as augmenting their bodies' natural tendency to absorb solar radiation. All Gargoyles are given this implant after six months.

A gruff appearance belies his gentle nature, though he is fierce if he must be, and would rather tinker or listen to stories than fight. His large hand were surprisingly dextrous and he had a natural aptitude for technology, he assists with the upkeep of the colony that was only completed eighty years ago. He's been a soldier since he was 32.

Name:  Jack Saghett (Jack Suh - get)

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Facial ID:
Personality: Carefree, but somewhat serious and hardworking.

Racial Traits:  Human -- None

Implants/Tech:  None, Beige Tech Band and Visor

Skills: Cooking, Farming, Botany

Profession:  Colony Shelter Chef, Part-Time Farmer

Weapons: None

Equipment: None

Backstory:  Jack is young and as a younger generation member, he is quite unsure how most of the defenses and tech for the colony work.  In fact, he's far from tech savvy and he wouldn't know how to use a tech-band if it didn't come with instructions at the beginning.  Fortunately, he cooks pretty darn good and most like his cooking enough to visit the public cafeteria when they don't feel like fixing something up at home.   Many go to "Jack's for a night out" for dates and the like, as well, so he treats the place like a restaurant.

Though he doesn't own it, of course, he does practically run and manage it, so he's quite fond of it and many still call it his, so it isn't like he's going to argue.  He's cooked since he was 14, taught by his mother when she had free time.  She also taught him how to plant flowers, which soon gave him the desire to learn to plant more things that were necessary for the colony.  After all, although entertainment careers are occasionally accepted within the colony, they are rare and few and far between.  It's never been said, but it's pretty much already known that you're expected to do something to help the colony when you get old enough.

Jack picked cooking and farming, since those are the things he loves the most, and he's decent enough in farming to help with that on the weekends.  However, he's never really held a weapon in his life, asked about a soldier's schedule, or even wondered what it's like to have their training or to do what they have to do every day to face the Folk.  He's never seen the Folk, either, nor does he ever hope to.  He's heard rumors and stories about them, of course, the hard part was telling the truth from lies, especially from fame-hungry soldiers that came to eat after duty.

He is also the first to admit that he is entirely clueless and ignorant--he is well aware of how uninformed he is of the outer-colony environment, as well as what it's like to work there and protect what they have worked so hard for since before he was born.  Still, he understands little of how technology works, and even less of what soldiers and gargoyles have to go through to protect their "outer hulls."

What he does know, however, is that some people--in fact, most people come back from there looking hardened and colder...and that's something he is quite sure he doesn't want to experience.  Unfortunately, the call for more men to go into training has been going out more and more frequently lately, and rumors fly that whisper of the Folk becoming increasingly difficult to keep away from the colony's inner zone.   There were two outer ruptures just this past week and that's the first time it's ever happened, so Jack also has to admit that he's getting quite nervous.
