The turnout was just what Chaos had expected. A high class funeral full of low-lives: Samson Petrelli, Gene Mallone, Salvator Velesti, and several other infamous crime bosses. Each owned a section of the city underground.

"Crime, that is," Chaos said in a hillbilly accent out loud, "Scumsuckers and hooligans."

Chaos watched the procession as the casket was carried into a large funeral home and up to the luxurious roof where the funeral was being held in broad daylight. However, an impish smile crossed his face as he saw the one he really wanted to see. Oscar Finestra.

"Oh, how I've awaited this day, Oscar, my boy," Chaos said cheerfully. "Oh how I've waited..."

"There they are," the Star Spangled Adventurer says from a low rooftop not far away. "The lot of them criminal heads. But that's an issue for Flip-Side. One of them is possessed by Horror."

White Star and Ms. America both lean against a wall on the roof and watch as American views the event. "So what are we waiting for? Let's get down there and beat on some criminals."

"Not that easy. If Horror suspects any of us, he can just jump out of one an possess another."

White Star then stands up right. "You know, for a team called the All American HEROES, we sure don't do a lot of hero work. When it was just you and me, we got a lot more done. I got my hands on, or should I say in, my dad's newest spectral tech. These babies can touch anything like it's solid, even if it has the molecular density of a gas."

"Your gauntlets are always getting up grade, 'ey, Star? Where's Eagle?"

"Where else? Off in fantasy land making sure Mama's okay," Ms. America says. She then hovers up. "Just say the word and I'll rocket on down there and give 'em all a face full of dirt."

"And what's to stop Horror from possessing YOU?"

At this both young heroines back down. Yeah, they did kind of overlook that. It was just a matter of seeing how events would unfold. "Half-Ghost told me it was this Gene Mallone character Horror was in."

They never knew what hit them. He hit the floor of the roof hard and in a sweeping kinetic blast launched most of the guards from the roof. Luckily, the entire area had been cordoned off for their funeral. And the guards at the bottom would never be alerting anyone ever again.

The next step, of course, had been crushing the hands of the remaining guards, with their guns. Chaos shook his head; was all that screaming really necessary? He remembered when they'd filled him full of serum and it felt like he was going to melt. He didn't scream. He had wanted to.

The crime bosses all had reacted in a myriad of ways: some ducked behind chairs, some cowered, others actually had their own weapons and tried to retaliate. Chaos had been amused and had actually let them get a shot off before he crunched the gun then held them all up in the air with kinetic force.

"Do you realize who--" one of them began.

"Oh, yes," Chaos said with a cheerful smile. "I really do. And now that the pleasantries of dealing with your goon squad have been taken care of, it's now time to deal with you lot." He looked cheerfully at a balding man with slick backed hair who was sweating profusely and looking at Chaos bug-eyed. "Oscar! You do remember me! I'm touched. You were the one who signed the final order for my kidnapping, and early experimentation." He smiled at the rest. "And you brave souls were the ones who decided to have me experimented on as a lab rat, then turned into a weapon, and then you had my family killed! Ahh...memories."

He looked them all over. Terrifying comprehension was coming over their faces. "You're getting it now! Good! I was worried I'd have to go into one of those Hannibal lectures or something."

"It wasn't anything personal!" one of them said. "It was just business!"

"Indeed?" Chaos said with cheerful, wide-eyed interest. "That's good! So is this! Y'see, I'm not really all that perturbed about what you did to my family. Really! I'm not!"

"Then why...?"

"I just said," Chaos told Oscar, "business. For starters, I'm afraid all of yours are going to end. I'd like to say crime doesn't pay, but that's a big, fat lie and we all know it. You're all living proof it can lead to hefty affluence. You've all killed tons of innocent people and ruined all sorts of lives to get where you are. Congratulations! You're the scum of the Earth!"

He applauded. "Unfortunately, you messed up. You created me. And karma's a b*tch and I'm acting as her flaming sword of retribution. What you did to me...broke something. And I can see it in your eyes when you all look at me. You recognize the wrongness. So do most people.

"Like take earlier, for instance. There was this really pretty girl. In my behaving 'normally' I asked her out and was soundly rejected. At my age, it should be devastating to be rejected. But I didn't care. Not a whit. Which sucks, cause I'm pretty sure I'd have thought she was a hottie when I was younger." He shrugged. "I rubbed her the wrong way. She's got good instincts.

"How do you all factor into that?" he continued. "Simple. But before that, I guess I should thank you. I mean, after all, if I hadn't been broken, I'd probably be some weepy, emo kid right now. So, thanks!

"Now, back to where you fit," he said, taking a goofy serious face. "Before...this...I was a normal comic book nerd full of stories about heroes and 'good always triumphs' and such. But when I look at it, they're all getting punked because you guys are sooooooo good at manipulating the law to getting you off. Some of you run things from prison! It's amazing! It really is! I applaud you.

"However, being the monster that I am--yeah, I know what I am--I don't have any qualms about just killing the lot of you, outright, and taking some burden off of an already broken system. Which is why I killed your crime kingpin which brought you all here."

Some of them gasped. "Do you realize--"

"Yes!" Chaos said, cutting off another. "I realize exactly the h*ll I've unleashed on this poor city. In killing him, I've created a power vacuum, which is going to get even worse when I kill all of you. Make no mistake, you're going to die today."

"But..." stammered Oscar. "But why?!"

"Why to which part?" said Chaos, tilting his head in confusion. "Why are you going to die today? I already told you! You're monsters, just like me. You need to die just like I need to. Or were you asking asking why I created the power vacuum knowingly?" he added, inclining his head the other way. "As to that...well, see, I'm a monster, not a hero. And in creating that power vacuum, all of your underlings and other lowlifes are going to start making a bid to fill in that void and vye for power. Most of them are going to be pretty obvious. In fact, it'll be like a crime riot!"

He laughed cheerfully, then made a sad face. "The only drawback is all the innocents that'll get caught in the crossfire." He shrugged. "Oh well, what's that term you all use? Collateral damage? Anyway, so while they're all out and about vying for supremacy, I'll be killing them! Every last one! No due process, no Miranda rights, just killing left and right every b*$tard that wants to commit a crime. I may even take out everyone in the prisons, too.

"That way, all the blood will be on my hands and no one else's!" He shook himself. "Dear me, I've rambled on like some kind of comic book villain. It's time I take you all to my special place so that you can tell me everything about your criminal empires before I kill you all."

Chaos' face went blank with surprise when Oscar suddenly laughed. Chaos bounced with curious excitement. "Ooh! What? What's so funny?" he asked excitedly.

The others tried to tilt their heads so that they could look at him, curious what he was laughing about, as well.

"You already gave away your bartering chip!" Oscar told him with a chuckle. "You already told us we're gonna die, ya mook! What on Earth makes you think we'll tell you anything, now?!"

He laughed harder and some of the others joined in uneasily. They all stopped--Oscar included--when they heard Chaos laughing boisterously.

"That's a very good question!" he said when he'd mastered his chuckles. "And I'm glad you asked. Sure, your lives are forfeit, but you all made the same mistake you use against people you're wanting to control: you made families. Each of you has a wife, children, aged parents...need I go on?"

Every face went white with his cheerful words said so casually, Oscar's the whitest. Chaos's smile seemed somehow sinister, and his eyes more so.

"But--you said you believed in heroes!" Oscar wheedled. "That's not what hero-types would do!"

Chaos nodded fervently. "I agree, heroes wouldn't do what I did. But when did I say that I was a hero? I already told you I'm a monster just the same as you."

"But...but...you'll never get away with this. Those capes will stop you!"

Chaos pondered on this. "Maybe eventually when they find out. But that's a good thing! I told you, I'm a monster. I need to be put down just like the rest of you do. And eventually they, or law enforcement, maybe even one of the criminals out there, will off me. And that's fine. Monsters like me shouldn't exist."

"Then how about I do it now?"

Chaos turned and a bullet hit his right shoulder at the edge, slicing cleanly through his flesh. A few of the crime bosses he had suspended in the air wavered and fell, hitting the ground hard. Chaos recovered, lifted them all up and slung them into poles that had been set up for the funeral, knocking the breath out of them. He turned his attention back behind him to see one of the guards whose hand he had crushed using his other hand. Chaos applauded and shook his head, and with a wave of his hand blasted the gun out of the guy's hand.

"You're a lousy shot with your other hand," he said with a laugh. "But at the same time, very good! To still have the will to fight even after all the others are still hunched over in pain--or passed out. It's a good show of loyalt and bravery that's rare in today's society. However," he added with a concerned expression, "I hope you've already had kids to pass on those admirable traits as--"

The guy suddenly screamed and hunched over, grabbing his crotch. Chaos nodded sadly.

"Well, you get the idea. You'll never experience the pleasure of a woman again..."

He turned back to the crime bosses. "Well, shall we?"

"What the devil?!" American says. "What is HE doing down there?! He's going to ruin the whole thing. Let's move."

Ms. America then floats up and rockets down, grabbing Chaos and throwing him across the landscape. Before long American and White Star arrive and begin grabbing and hauling off the gangsters. Suddenly they realize something. One's missing. "Mallone, where's Mallone?" American says, looking around.

Chaos is suddenly thrown for a loop. He stops in mid-air, rights himself, then sees heroes. He shakes his head.

"Well," he says. "They really do appear out of nowhere like nuisances, don't they...?"

Immediately, he lands and launches a kinetic blast that sends Ms. America two blocks away. "That was rude, lady!" he says as he does so. The other two he immediately constricts mercilessly, then rams their heads into the roof--the chick not as hard cause it's obvious she's not as tough--then launches them several blocks.

"That takes care of that," he says. "Now...where were we...? Hey! One of you is missing!"

Attn: Chaos

Suddenly Ms. America lands behind Chaos and puts one head on his shoulder, using the other as a hammer and him as the nail, driving him into the ground. Meanwhile White Star and American are caught before making impact. Looking up, they see they are being held by American Eagle. "What would you do without me?"

The remainder of the team manages their way back to the funeral. American and White Star sit on the roof as Ms. America and American Eagle pick up the gangsters, rocketing away. "Where's the last one?"

"No idea. But he's the one Horror is hiding in," American says.

Chaos's head hurts. "Fine..." he says with a sigh. "We gotta do the whole 'superhero battle' thing because you can't leave well enough alone..."

He releases a kinetic blast that both breaks him out and sends Ms. America flying. He speeds over to her, punches her in the gut, then rams his head into hers mercilessly, then constricts her and holds her as he floats her back. From there, he grabs several of the terrified bystanders and floats them all over the roof.

"Hey, a**holes!" he calls cheerfully. "Sadistic choice time! What's more important? Those criminals, or these innocent people?"

Immediately he drops them, then launches a few more off the roof for good measure. He takes Ms. America and drives her head first up to the waist into the roof.

"Your call!"

Chaos sighed. Weeks of planning, ruined by a couple of supers. It was a shame he couldn't kill them. Though, in truth, he felt no compulsion of revenge.

He shrugged. He already had the lot of them: he had their families as hostages. They'd come looking for him soon enough.

The next evening, Triggerman and Lasagna take to the busy city skyline. Still it was a strange sight seeing a cowboy in the middle of 19XX New York. Nonetheless, he and his sidekick were American icons.

"Honey! I'm hooooooome[/]!"

The lights flicked on in the penthouse suite as Chaos entered from the balcony, followed by the floating men, all of which hit their head on the door.

"Gotta watch your step there!" Chaos said with a laugh.

Immediately, he sent them flying to several standing lab beds that cuffed them to them as soon as they hit.

"I'm sure you all recognize Oscar's suite? And I'm sure you all recognize those lab beds where other 'guests' like myself were strapped? I took the liberty of helping myself. Hope you don't mind!"

He heaved a sigh of relief. Blood was leaking out of his nose and the side of his eyes. "Yeah, I won't be doing that again any time soon. Carrying you guys for so long is hard work." He chuckled as he went to a sink, turned on the faucet, and washed the blood off.

They had all come of their own volition--well, that was an exaggeration. They had actually all come armed to the teeth with a squad of some of the best men and tech money could buy. But seeing as he had expected it, he had set up some nasty traps and slaughtered the lot of them. In fact, he now felt he should send Ms. American a fruit basket thanking her for the opportunity to rid the world of more scum.

From there, taking them had been a cinch. It was now time to do what he came to do.

"Ahh!" he exclaimed as he wiped water from his face. "Refreshing! Now...on with the show! Welcome to your families!"

Directly across from each other they sat, the crime bosses and their families, all manacled down to identical tables. There were twelve kids in all, three young women, seven middle aged women, and four old men and women. All gagged.

With several flicks of his fingers, Chaos removed the gags from his hostages and instantly a tirade of crying, indignation, and shouting filled the room. Immediately, Chaos lifted a chair and crushed it into a large, compact ball of wood before all of them. For some reason, this seemed to quieten all of them.

"Ahh..." he said. "That's better. It looks like a few of you know why you're here, now, and some of you aren't very happy about it. For those of you who don't, allow me to elucidate you. Y'see..."

"Their gangsters!" said a black haired boy proudly. "All of them mob bosses! My daddy is a powerful man and he's gonna f*** you up!"

Chaos listened to all of this wide-eyed, then laughed. He wiped a tear away as he turned to Salvator. "Wow, that's quite the child you've got there!" he said mirthfully. "You must be so proud! But that's right, everyone, these men who stand before you are infamous mob bosses who've lied, cheated, extorted, and murdered so many you'd need an accountant to tally up the total!"

"D*mn right!"

It was the little boy again. Chaos looked at him with rapt attention.

"Sometimes you've gotta break a few eggs!" he said with knowing proudness. "Isn't that right, daddy? That's what you always say. And this f*** is just hating because you're a real bada**!"

"Shut up, Nikolas!" Salvator exclaimed, blood draining from his face.

"But why, daddy?" said the boy. "He ain't nothin'! Plug him like you did that one guy!"

"Salvator Nikolai Velesti!" said a raven haired woman next to him, all indignant outrage. "Our son...you...exposed him to...to..."

"Lay off it, momma!" the boy snapped. "I'm a big man! I can take it! This do-gooder ain't gonna do sh**!"

Chaos fell over laughing. "'From the mouth of babes!' as they say!" he cried out, rolling on the floor.

He floated to his feet. "Well, kid," he began, "you made my job soooo much easier! I was afraid I'd have to make an example of the blond cutie over there, but seeing as you're such a big man, you can be it for her!"

"Wait! No!" Salvator cried. "What are you gonna do to my son!"

"Relax, Sal!" Chaos said. "I need to let you a**holes know I mean business. Sure, I could slap around the women or the elderly, but even as monstrous as you losers are, nobody is immune to seeing a child being hurt by someone just because he can!"

"Please!" cried the raven haired woman. "Don't hurt my child! I'll do anything!"

"Ahh, and if I could actually experience lust, I might even take you up on that offer," Chaos replied cheerfully. "But, you had to fall in love with the wrong man."

"Hey! Let me go, you f***ing sh**face! Let me--"

The boy had made a lot of noise as Chaos had taken the boy's hand and pulled out a knife. His face went pale as he finally understood the severity of the situation. Chaos mused as he looked at the boy's hand.

"Don't you do it!" Salvator cried desperately. "Don't you f***ing do it! I'll kill you, you son of a b****! I'll kill you!"

"You're right," Chaos said suddenly, putting the knife away.

Salvator breathed a sigh of relief until he heard a loud snap followed by a shrill of agony and terror from his son. He looked to see Chaos had broken one of Nikolas' fingers. The kid tossed and turned in agony, still strapped to the table. Nikolas' mother cried and fought against her bonds, wanting to comfort and protect her child. Chaos smiled malevolently at the mob bosses.

"Now..." he began, "I did that for no other reason than to show you I mean business. There are eleven other kids. Do you really want to suffer the little children?"

He saw the will to fight and resist leave every face. Oscar, the last. Chaos smiled cheerfully. "Excellent! Now, if I catch you in a lie, your children will suffer. Horribly. I just broke the finger this time, I'm not above dismemberment or disfiguration. Do we understand each other?"

Seven reluctant heads nodded. "Good. Now let's get to business."

"Yes, yes, freulein." Chaos said in an Austrian accent. "See? Confession is good for the soul!"

"Go to h*ll, you b**%*#@!" spat Petrelli. "There, we've told you everything. Everything! Now free our families!"

"Oh, really?" Chaos said, inclining his head. "Are you sure? Well, let's see if that's true. I believe I've been taking it easy on Margaret, so let's--"

"No, please!" Petrelli begged. "I've told you everything! I swear! On the soul of my father, I swear it!"

Chaos smiled at him. "Now that I believe," he said beaming.

It hadn't taken as long as Chaos had thought to break them. Well, it helped that he had enlisted the help of several of the other disgruntled "lab rats" to assist him in this endeavor. He had had them infiltrate each of the mob bosses' establishments to confirm everything they said. All in all, it only had taken a few hours.

"Well, thank you gentlemen!" Chaos said cheerfully. "It's been a real pleasure! I guess now I should slowly torture you like all the other victims you've murdered. I'll make sure to do it with fee--no, wait. That's the mistake everyone makes. Besides we should get this show on the road.

"Soooooooo," he said rubbing his hands, "I'll just gruesomely kill you now and leave your bodies as graphic displays to start the revolution!"

"Please..." this time it was Oscar. "Not...not in front of our families."

Chaos nodded agreement. "You're right. I'm not out to create more of myself, though I may have already."

Almost all of the children had fallen into silent weeping, as had some of the mothers, but at this a few burst out into protests and begging to not kill their father/husband. Chaos ignored them, of course, and sighed. With some focusing and waving of his hands, he once more levitated that seven mob bosses.

"Ahh, internal hemorrhaging. So fun!" he said turning to the balcony. "Leave love bleeding in my hands! In my hands again!" he sang.

The horrible ghost follows the crazed boy to the balcony and watches. Ooh, how delicious. The surge of negative emotion. It fed him, kept him strong. He could taste their anger, sorrow, and fear. This was his pastime. He then turns to a little girl projecting the least emotional response. How boring. Emotional yes but not what he'd wanted. Very well...she would be next. He then creeps through the air and enters her body, watching through her eyes.

"There ya go!" Chaos said, floating back to admire his handiwork. "All nice and snug!"

They were fastened to the building where they had been having their funeral. A display for all to see. The seven mob bosses struggled against the metal that he'd bent to hold them in place to no avail. Above them were the word in bold white: Let loose the dogs of war! Below them read: Wanted: new super crime boss to take over Manhattan! All d**chebags need apply!

"Dramatic," he commented. "But effective."

"Let us go..." Salvator pleaded. "I can help you, man, fix whatever's wrong..."

"Ha! As if!"

He focused, and with a grasp, Salvator slumped dead, his heart having been crushed. The others gasped and struggled all the more fiercely.

"Please!"
"No!"

Chaos shook his head. "I'm not a comic book villain to talk. It's done."

And with those words, he crushed each of their hearts in turn. Suddenly, he lost control and plummeted to the Earth, only slightly regaining control and softening his landing. He coughed up blood, and more was coming out his ears and nose.

"Heh," he said. "Overdid it a bit with the telekinetics. I better split before any more do-gooders show up."

He forced himself to his feet, leapt into the air, then sped off.

Horror stirs within Mallone's young daughter. And stares through the car window as they pull away from the building. He laughs from within and this simple notion provokes a smile, wide across the girl's face.

Later that week, crime had suddenly taken to a spike. Things were looking grim. The police were ill equipped for the riots and massacres in the streets. The heroes had decided to stay out of this. There was nothing that could be done in all honesty. They stuck to what they knew. Super criminals. Oh sure, some heroes tried. But many found their efforts fruitless. Most times, the criminals they sought were dead before they got there.

Other times they would hear a deranged laugh in the midst of combat with gangs and those gangsters would just drop dead.

Wild-Child sits on a high building one afternoon and looks over the city. Selective superhuman senses. That was fun to play with. She could hear, smell, and see beyond that of any average human. She then hears a scream and jumps. Before impact, she grabs a clothing line stretched between two buildings and uses it to swing to a stop before rolling to a halt in an alley.

Some idiot was trying to steal a ladies belongings. "Excuse me," she interrupts, "But if you wanna learn that badly how to accessorize, first thing's first. Honey, that just is NOT your color." She then jumps down on top of him and punches him in the head, taking the purse back and giving it to the woman. "There you go."

Suddenly she hears the sound of gunfire. A shootout. Again with this? It was the third time in two hours! Reluctantly, she begins to climb the near building, grabbing ledges and bars to swing her way up. She then takes off along the rooftops. Finally, she makes it to the shootout and grabs a pod from her wrist pockets. "All right, good. They're still alive."

Chaos sat upon a rooftop of a skyscraper, looking down upon the citizens below with his enhanced sight. His plan had worked; the criminals were out and about. But, of course, that was why he was here.

He had noticed his powers were still growing--an untapped potential. He thought now would be the perfect time to help them grow.

He smiled as he suddenly picked up on a silent alarm that blatantly turned into a shootout as the criminals fled a bank. Just the opportunity Chaos had been waiting for. He was surprised to see the police, though, as they were stretched very thin these days.

"We own this town, b**ches!" screemed a masked man as he let off several rounds of a machine gun. The police ducked behind their cars.

"Candidate number 1!"

Chaos focused and pointed his hand at the guy and squeezed. Suddenly, down below, the guy hunched over clutching his heart. Chaos sighed; if he was down there the guy would've been dead already. But, he thought with a shrug, this was training. He focused his power and...

"Aah!"

The man let out a blood-curdling scream as his heart crushed and he fell over dead. The other men looked at their fallen man in shock. Chaos focused, and another man hunched over, then finally fell over dead. The men were starting to panic and shoot wildly. Chaos focused and another fell dead.

"We give up! We give up!"

The men all dropped their guns and held up their hands. Chaos shook his head. "Should've thought've that before you decided to do the crime..."

He focused with both hands and two of them fell dead. He smiled; he was getting the hang of this! The men below were crying now, and the police were looking around for the culprit. With a few more grips, all of the criminals fell dead. Chaos wiped the little bit of blood starting to trickle down his nose away, listening for the next signs of criminal activity.

Wild-Child stands over the last of her beat down victims as the police arrive. She smiles as the cops take away each of the gangsters but she knows very well that this is only the beginning. She then climbs up onto another rooftop and looks around. The place was in disarray. She could see a few heroes across the city, flying around. It was a big place. She then gets back to her own patrol, jumping off.

Chaos walked along the edge of another rooftop, watching the scene unfold. It was a fight between to rival gangs, and everything within a 100 ft radius was open game. Some civilians lay on the ground, injured or dying at the hands of stray gunfire. Chaos shook his head.

He leapt in the air and hovered directly over the area in between the two gangs and began to practice, crushing the hearts of the gangs 2 at a time, one on each side. In a matter of minutes, it was over, and both sides lay dead. Chaos checked his nose to find it wasn't bleeding; he had improved.

"Let's keep moving," he said, flying onward to wherever the next disturbance would be.

Wild-Child suddenly looks down to find that a bank had erupted into an explosion below. Out from the flames emerge several men and women in purple gangster outfit, resembling something a rather colorful gangster from the 30's might wear. They all have what, at a glance, may appear to be tommy-guns. A closer look? Laser rifles. They fire off rounds and rounds of the weapons, rushing off into what appears to be black limo and peel out. Wild-Child then jumps from the roof and catches a flag pole, spinning on it before dropping off and landing on the roof of the vehicle. "Okay, I got this far...I really should have thought this through."

As Chaos flew around killing more criminals, he happened upon Wild-Child in the middle of a chase. He nodded appreciatively. "You go, girl!" he cheered.

In mid-air, he began a cheerleading routine with imaginary pom-poms. "Wild-Child! Wild-Child! Zis-boom-bah! Firecracker! Firecracker! Rah! Rah! Rah!"

He laughed at his own joke, then flew off, there were more criminals to murder, and he was sure the heroine wouldn't approve if he killed her prey. Better not to tangle with another super. They were relentless.

He thought about it. Technically, so was he, but supers tended to hold a grudge when you had to beat the holy tar out of them to get them to back off...

As Wild-Child looks for a way to try and slow the vehicle down, she suddenly hears the weapons inside the car shifting. "What the- GAH!" She jerks out of the way as a laser beam shoots through the roof. "Okay, that's just not fair!" She then tries to reach into the vehicle but another shot is fired which she just barely evades. "Okay, now you're just being rude."

Another figure suddenly lands on the vehicle in front of Wild-Child. She wears a blue outfit and crouches down on the windshield. "Hey, kid," she says. "Excuse me a minute, would ya?" The car suddenly starts to change color from violet to blue. From there the wheels become jagged and spiked, digging into the street, causing the car to slow down. The vehicle itself begins to somewhat change in shape. It eventually swerves to a stop and the blue heroine jumps down from the hood, opening the door and yanking the driver out. "Look'it, ya dumb cluck. I'm real tired of havin' to stop you goons and your boss cold. Azure owns these streets, Capiche?"

The goon nods vigorously as Azure grabs the two fro the back seat and string them up to the car, leaving them there for the police who come soon to pick them up. "Nice try, kid. But Lady Vi is a serious No-Nonsense dame."

"Yes'm," Wild-Child says.

After this, Azure turns and waves, running off into an alley and climbing a fire escape to get back to her own patrol.

The day was drawing to a close and some of the rioting had died for the lull between day and night. Chaos figured he could call it for a while before he went back out.

He flew to a more rundown part of the city. An old gothic-style church stood as a monolith against the decay that surrounded it. Chaos landed in front of it and went in.

"Honey! I'm home!" he called. "Oh wait! I'm not married! In that case, go die you trifling tramp!" he added with a laugh.

"Chaos! Is that you, Chaos?"

The next thing he knew, he was being bowled over by a tangle of white curly hair. Chaos grunted and stumbled back, then pet the head of hair.

"Well, it's good to be missed, I guess," he said with a chuckle. "How are you, Rinna?"

The tangle of white curly hair pushed off of Chaos to reveal a pair of startlingly gray eyes rested in a young teenage girl's face. This was Rinna, and Chaos' shadow whenever he was here.

"Where were you?!" she demanded. "One minute I was snuggled against you comfortably and then you just disappeared. I probed all over New York for you!" She hit his arm. "Ya big jerk!"

Chaos laughed and put a hand on the top of her head. He wondered how Cross the supes would take it if they knew he housed a potential Level 1 telekinetic. Rinna was powerful beyond belief, but she had yet to accustom to her powers and was emotionally unstable due to her treatment. Unfortunately for both her and Chaos, she had a near-fanatical devotion to Chaos that the harder he tried to break her of it, the worse she got. He knew why.

They had been in the same lab together and he had looked after her like a little sister, taking beatings meant for her, or making himself the first guinea pig for the tests so that she wouldn't have to be. He remembered a few times waking up after he had been bludgeoned so bad he'd blacked out to find her holding him and singing, carressing his hair gently. He remembered being comforted by it, when he still could feel.

But now it was no good. He needed to cut the apron strings. He needed to die and if it continued on like this she would be devastated. He wasn't worried about her hurting--he couldn't feel such things--but he knew the logical conclusion: she'd have a meltdown.

The last time she'd had one, she'd leveled 10 city blocks before he had managed to calm her down. He'd been the cause of it in the first place; he'd told her it was time they went their separate ways and to forget about him cause he was going to die. She went ballistic, and when he managed to calm her down, she fiercely declaimed that she'd destroy anyone who ever hurt him. When he pointed out it could be the law, a darkness that would've chilled a normal man to his soul appeared in her eyes.

"You listen to me, Ras," she said. "I don't care if it was God Himself, no one will hurt you. No one. If the government ever tries, then I'll level Washington and anything to do with it."

He shook his head and had hugged her. "You're not a monster like me," he had told her cheerfully. "Please don't become one. I'd have to kill you and that would be bad. You have so much good you could do!"

His mind snapped back to the present. "Sorry, I had work to do," he told her.

"I'll say! There's video footage of people falling dead out there. I figured it was your doing. The plan still on to destroy Riker's after the streets are cleared of all the scum?"

Chaos turned to regard Renald--or Cyber as he preferred to be called. He was a short, chubby black kid with hazel eyes and a generous mouth. The experiments of the lab hadn't created just telekinetics. Cyber had developed some way to communicate with machines and could hack anything. There was no encryption that could stop him. Not even the government's top secret facilities. Chaos had put this to use in his designs to bring down the criminals.

"Of course!"

"You should let me go out and help you. I'd have killed them all dead!"

That would be Zapper. No matter how much everyone tried to tell him his name sucked, he stuck with it all the same. He had long brown hair, gray eyes, and a tall, lanky build. He had just finished another growth spurt.

"Killing is not so easy as you think," Chaos told him simply.

"You do it all the time!" Zapper protested.

"Yes," Chaos answered, "cause I'm a monster. But if you were to become one, I'd have to kill you."

Zapper took an involuntary step back. He was hitting that teen wangst phase and wanting to be a rebel. Chaos hoped he'd grow out of it soon before he had to beat him senseless. Zapper, though, wasn't done yet and needed to prove himself to "the man." Which, apparently, he had decided was Chaos.

"If you believe monsters are so bad," he snapped, "why don't you just kill yourself then!"

The ground shook and everyone instinctively looked to the cause of it. Zapper went bone white as he knew he had said the wrong thing. Rinna's eyes glowed malevolently as she glared at Zapper.

"Don't you dare say that again...!" she growled menacingly.

Chaos quickly defused the situation by pulling Rinna into a hug. "He didn't mean it," he told her. "He's just being wangsty. I'm not gonna die, so quit freaking out."

She quickly squeezed the life out of him. "I can't lose you...!" she whispered with a desperation that Chaos could've sworn managed to touch him if he didn't know better.

"And you're not," he said. "But enough of this mushy stuff. I'm gonna go get some rest and maybe a bite to eat. Killing so many criminals for hours on end really takes it out of you!"

American stands on a rooftop with White Star and looks over the city. The place was going to the dogs. Was there really anything they could do? For every criminal they took down, more were ready around a corner somewhere. Sure things were bad before, but now? It's like everything the heroes had done over the years to really clean the place up was disappearing. "Where do these guys come from?" White Star asks.

"They're just a bunch of gangsters trying to take up new territory. It'll be over by the end of the month. I've seen it all before," American says.

"If you say so."
