Character Creation Contest Empty Character Creation Contest

Post by Red 4th January 2013, 11:48 pm

Hello and welcome to the character creation contest! This monthly contest aims to help improve character creation when one is given certain parameters, as when one is creating someone for a roleplay.

Every month we will provide you all with three images from which you may create a character as well as a theme. The theme may be either concrete or abstract, but in some way the theme MUST be incorporated into your character in order for them to qualify. Near the end of the month a poll will go up that everyone may vote on to determine the winning character of the month. The winner will be posted on the front page.

RULES

1) Please use the application form we give you. Any change to it might cause you to be disqualified.

2) Please note that even if this is a contest, it is more for growing into making better characters and meant for fun. Please respect each other and don't be sad if yours wasn't nominated by the forum as the favorite.

3) Only one application per person, doing more than one would be cheating and most likely a lack of respect toward the others. Quality over quantity is best anyways ! Any double application would lead to you being disqualified.

4) Post your application in the mentioned date, if you're late, we can't do anything about it. Do understand this is a monthly event and we have to keep the rhythm up. Your entry will not be taken in part if you're late.

5) Please also uses the pictures we provide you with for the character contest. This was set to see the various ideas and creativity coming from the same picture. Although there may be special months where we will give freedom to the rpers on it, unless we say so please use the pictures given to you.

6) Themes must also be respected, if we feel like your application is too much out of topic, it may be ignored. If there's something about the theme you don't understand, you can ask question to the runner of the event.

7) A poll will be up around the end of the month to vote for the forum's favorite. Please do not vote for yourself. Vote for your favorite among the others, don't be selfish.

Please also note that everyone who participates will win a small amount of gold points and the one who gets featured will have some more gold points than the others.

Base Template: (May differ depending on themes. Any changes will be announced each month.)

January

Theme: Failure

As many ways this word could take we invite you to make a character out of a single word as the theme. The character can be free of timeline or events that could have occured in his background to clash with this word. You may choose from one of the three pictures given to you as well. Do note that anyone who participate will win gold points and the person that will get the most vote will get a bit more. Have fun !

**Please note that Weapons and Magic can be left blank with a - if you don't wish your creation to have any for this theme. That is to your discretion. As for skills, it could be everyday life skills, so please fill it =)**

Image Chosen: Number 1

Name: Yin Shun Lu

Age: 20

Gender: F

Alignment: Neutral Good

Personality: Soft spoken and quiet to others, she is picky about what she wants and is patient to gain her goals.

Skills: Diplomacy, archery and equestrian skills

Weapon(s): Bow and arrow

Magic (if any): none

Back Story: I am a Princess, the only child of my mother and father. Ever since I was born my life has been scandalous. See I am a female, and females are second class citizens. My parents remind me on a daily basis of the failure and disappointment I am for the nation. They do love me, but they are scrutinized because of that. I have been raised to be the perfect wife: quiet, demure, basically a servant to her potential husband. They did teach me to run a household and allowed me to learn the bow and arrow. I love archery and it shows. Along with my equestrian skills, one would think that I would be a good catch. Alas, I have gone through potential beaus left and right. Can I help it if they are scums of the earth? Anyway I digress, I better find a suitable husband soon, or I will be forced to marry. That would be extremely bad.

Back Story:

I was born far up in the icy Northlands, where my family were the only other humans I would see for many moons at a time. I heard my father and mother once lived further down south, at the edge of human civilization, before the icelands, but they left for reasons unknown. All I know is asking about it would lead to silence the rest of the night from them both.

When I was younger, this meant nothing to me, and I was content to leave them their secrets and stay living up with my brothers and sisters. But life was lonely and harsh, and I entreated their leave to go further down south in search of another human settlement. I was an adult, and yet, they forbade me! As if I was still a child to them. Angered, I left in the night, and my younger brother Dag joined me.

When we came down from the icelands, we found a human settlement, the last one in the far North, and there we made a life for ourselves. It was there I met Ebba, fell in love, had a son Elias.

There was a legend, in that town, of two sorceresses, sisters, who lived in the caverns by the fjord. Many a year ago they held the land in terror, until they were driven back by a man and his warrior bride. The younger sister perished by the sword, and the elder, stronger sister survived, retreating into hiding. It is said she made a vow, that should she encounter any of their bloodline, she would take from them the one they loved most, much as her sister was taken from her.

I thought it was but a legend, until the year Elias turned fourteen, barely a man. A cloud fell over the village at the edge of the world, a violent snowstorm that heralded the return of the sorceress. She had been training, gaining strength, so that when she showed up at the town gates the people fell to their knees at the force of her magic.

I knew then, as she approached me, my brother, and my family, that she was the reason my parents lived up to the North; they had stolen her sister from her, and although they had defeated her once, they feared her, enough to flee as far as they could from her. She was small, frail, and aged, and yet neither Dag nor I could stop her. She focused her wrath on me, the eldest; but rather than slaying me, she turned to my family and, as she had vowed, fixed her wrath on my most beloved, Ebba.

Poor Elias, watching his mother’s blood stain the snow red, couldn’t handle it. His rage was great enough to break free of her binding spell, and he threw herself at her, clawing at her eyes. The ancient sorceress did not even blink, freezing him in a block of ice. “Your kinsman again tries to destroy me,” she said, looking at me, “and for his insolence, you all will be punished, him most of all.”

She cast a curse over him and vanished, as the boy I had raised and loved morphed into a massive white bear. When the monster that my son had been turned to me, there was no recognition in his eyes: only hate. He ravaged the small village, scattered the bodies of the women and children, and flew into a rage as my brother Dag injured his eye, tearing him to shreds. He left me alive with only a wound, perhaps still recognizing his father, and left the town in ruins.

I had been a fool to not trust my parents, and my failure to trust them and to protect my family drove me after the only family I had left: the white bear, my son. I started traveling, seeking out stories of a vicious, one-eyed white bear until I found him. He bore the scars of many hunters, and I fought him until, bleeding and exhausted, we both fell to our knees; I tended his and my wounds, in spite of the danger, in the hopes that he might remember. I don’t think he ever has; while he is no longer an enemy of mine, he looks at me as a father would look at a son. I have to believe his condition can be cured. I have to. Otherwise I am lost.

Character Creation Contest Empty Re: Character Creation Contest

Image Chosen:
Image3
Name:
Axel Hartent
Age:
21
Gender:
M
Alignment:
Chaotic Neutral
Personality:
Axel has quite the outer shell built up, to be honest. Having prided himself in his own genius from the time he was small, Axel's ego has grown to rather extreme degrees, resulting in a number of eccentric mannerisms. Having lived a privileged life, he's come to know his social standing as a blessing, using it to lure women at any chance he gets. He adores the attention he gets for his unbelievable inventions and proudly displays all of his latest contraptions in the largest, most attention grabbing displays in any expo he attends. However, beneath this exterior is a troubled young man whose intellect knows no bounds. He truly prides himself on the ability to think rationally and loses himself in his research and experiments, shutting away most of the outside world whenever he closes the door to his lab. He enjoys solving the puzzles laid out by life and loves a good challenge to his unyielding wit. When he is right, he will make sure all in his vicinity are aware of it and if interrupted, he will unleash a fury the likes of which none have ever known. When he's not being an eccentric socialite and attending some form of party or function to escape the reality of his life, he's in his lab trying his best to escape it. If there is one human being alive he cares for more than himself, it is his little sister, Evelyn. Having sworn to be her protector, he watches over her even when it seems doing so would be rather counter-beneficial to him.

Skills:
Inventing - Axel is capable of creating a vast array of technological marvels.
Fisticuffs - Axel is an able brawler.
Wit - Axel's wit has actually gotten him out of a number of situations, be it quick thinking in high pressure situations or simply using words to his advantage.

Weapon(s):
Inventions - Whatever he's invented for a situation, he tends to use as a weapon, be they gauntlets that let him punch through solid rock to firearms.

Magic (if any):
None - Axel is aware of magic and doesn't doubt it but he does not understand it due to the lack of calculation and scientific knowledge that can be applied to it.

Back Story:
Axel and his little sister, Evelyn(Chaotic Neutral/Evil), grew up together with their grandparents after the tragic loss of their biological parents. The small town in which they spent their earlier years was dirt poor and they were forced to adapt, Evelyn spending more time on their farm than Axel who spent his time in the basement, reading and creating. Then, in what seemed to be an instant, everything was taken from them.

A tornado swept through town and their grandparents were nowhere to be found. The two siblings were sent to an orphanage. The day they arrived, Evelyn was bullied and teased for her small size when the rest of the kids were practically buildings. She was pushed, at one point, down the stairs. When Axel heard about this and came to find his sister okay, barring her ego, of cours, he vowed to always protect her. From then on, anyone who bothered her would have to go through him. That'd have been difficult for Axel, given his slender physique in comparison to the rest of the kids at the orphanages, all toughened from farm work. However, Axel's brain was his weapon.

Years passed and Axel managed, at last, to sell an invention. From then on, money began to turn up more and more frequently. When he was of age, Axel snatched up his sister and they moved away from that small town which held such painful memories. He'd not lose her too. He remembered the day of the tornado. He tried to hold on to his grandfather's hand. He really did. But he just couldn't do it. The tornado then carried them away as Axel shut the bunker doors overhead with tears in his eyes.

Fast forward several more years. Humble though his beginning may be, Axel's image inflated exponentially, as did that of his sister. If there was anyone with as big an ego as him, it was her. Evelyn was adored by most and, though naive, she'd grown to be a formidable sorceress. She never did grow much, however. She was simply small for her entire life. At one point it'd been teasing and now it was adoration. Could people not just treat her like a normal person?

Public perception of Axel was that of a true genius and a fun-loving playboy without a care in the world. No one would have ever guessed the tortured soul that lay beneath that outer facade. No one would guess that his motivation was a crippling fear of failing to secure his sister's happiness and safety and the paralyzing memory of his failing to save his grandparents.

Suddenly, Evelyn makes a decision that he can hardly comprehend. Now the pressure to protect her was that much higher now that she, in all her naive splendor, simply decided she was going to just take over the world...as simple as that. She's not particularly good at being bad either though she does know how to use her cuteness as an effective weapon. Still, Axel worries. That kind of goal wasn't easily met...if met at all. But he'd rather experience his failure to save his grandparents a hundred times over than lose her here and now.

Character Creation Contest Empty Re: Character Creation Contest

Post by JerriLeah7 9th January 2013, 10:22 am

Image Chosen: Image One

Name: Titania Atriganté

Age: 973

Gender: Female

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Personality: Refined, Vain, Patient, & Faithless
Likes: Classical Music, Dancing, Pretty Faces
Detests: Idiocy, Uncleanliness, Those Without Manners

Skills: Refine Dining, Linguistics, Studies in Culture, History, War, Beauty & Skin Care, Acting, and Magic Practice

Weapon(s): None

Magic (if any): Possession, Drain, and Minor Illusion Magic

Back Story: Titania does not remember her age, but this has little relevance to her. Aging is no concern of hers, as she has lived forever, moving from painting to painting, ever the pleasurable "object" to mankind's eyes.

She was originally painted in very ancient times; times that she cannot remember. In fact, she cannot even remember the face of her painter, though she does remember that she used to cling to it. When she was young and naive, she clung to the face, searching for it long after she had first been sold.

None of that matters now, however. Titania has moved from century to century, from decade to decade, and from house to house. She has learned patience from early on--after all, a painting cannot move when those that believe they own her can see her. That would be foolish, indeed. In fact, it is something that she did once, when she had fallen in love with a mortal. A huge mistake, considering the man (or was it a woman?) died--they all die at some point.

It truly is a sore thing to be them. They have lost all refinement over the years, falling from grace in each generation, regardless of how individualistic each of them have been, regardless of the family bloodline that runs through their veins or the influential patterns in their life.

To be honest, mankind has grown to bore her, despite the prior journeys and adventures she has shared in their homes. Now, she lives only for one thing--that being youth, obviously. As any painting, she should have died out long ago, with the rest. Even the most precious care and preservation of her surface and frame confine could not hold her forever. Indeed, her very first frame died eons ago--something of which she quite nostalgically reminisces about to herself during the long, droll days.

However, Titania does not fear the decay of time, as she has moved from frame to frame, painting to painting, slaying any other that lived in them before and taking from them the space that they would have called home. This has kept her quite amused and satisfied, as new scenes and surroundings have always been nice, every now and again--she is quite picky about the standard of any painting that she should take, naturally.

Additionally, she absolutely loves to possess the bodies of any pretty women in the house--whichever house she may be. If there are only ugly women at the time, she'll wait until she finds one. Possessing their bodies is quite simple, really--and very rewarding. One could never taste or feel or truly see as delicately as a human. Her first experience in a woman was so sporadic, new, and unbalanced, however, that she had killed the pour body within an instant. Regretful, as the lady had the most soft skin--almost as soft as her own...

Now, she is much more slow and careful with her possession, taking from them just a few hours at a time, and only with moments that they surely would not miss or notice missing from their memories. Alas, some bodies are not as good as others and some experiences are quite lacking compared to others, especially in our modern times when women are hardly as attractive and as delicate as they used to be. Still, they all do have one thing in common, and that is their youth, which she drains from them slowly without hesitation, taking only a few years off of various women, both homeowners and simple visitors, so that she may remain in the living.

Unfortunately, though she has lived for hundreds of years and met millions of people over time, learned so much of mankind's cultures and values and beliefs, stolen youth from them and used them as cattle simply for survival, Titania has forgotten something quite relevant...the why of survival. Why is she so interested in living forever--in outlasting each human that marks her path and overcoming them in intellect and overall superiority? What difference does it really make if she is better than all of them, lasting forever in time and continuing without any true direction or goal? To her distress, she has yet to discover the answer to this, left to her lonely, long existence with only temporary distractions to keep her amused across the expanse of time.

Alright this close up for January ! Now on to the next one ! Is everyone ready ?! I sure hope so!

February

This month theme will be a sentence ! ;

Human nature is dual sided - on one, the ideal, the kind and the humble, on the other, the violent and the proud. As much as one hides it, they all have that darker side. Be sure in your background to describe at least one situation in which your character acted wrongly.
