Legend of the Zodiac - Page 5 Empty Legend of the Zodiac

Post by Ink 5th February 2012, 4:41 pm

First topic message reminder :

Long ago, The Zodiac reigned supreme. Towering beasts whose power was unmatched. They raged on for millenia, laying waste to all that stood in their paths. No living creature went unnoticed. All was reduced to ash and ruin. This would go on for many years. Then, a beacon of hope shone over the world. A cataclysmic event swept over the land. The Zodiac fell. She who held our Earth took the weakened beasts and cast them out into the stars where they became spirits. The very power of these spirits moved the lights in the sky and gave form to the constellations we see every night, looking up into the sky. That is the legend of The 12 Zodiac Beasts.

Ages later, the rise of a new threat would bring about a new legend. This threat came in the form of The Titans. The Titans were massive creatures, embodying the very forces of nature herself. Their power was unrivaled. It was said that even the combined might of The Gods could not defeat them. However, The Gods knew that there was one hope. The Zodiac Beasts. These entities, when acting in unison, dwarfed the power of the gods. They could very well challenge that of the Titans. Using their own divine abilities, they transformed mankind into a series of conduits who could potentially draw on the power of the spirits in the constellations. They then chose the twelve most worthy individuals and granted them the power of The Zodiac.

The Zodiac challenged the Titans effective immediately. Led by the mighty Capricorn, the Titans were very much challenged. The battle raged for many days and many nights. Finally, the first of fatal injuries was made. Leo was critically wounded as was the predication of an elderly oracle woman. Now hope seemed thin. The Zodiac felt that even they could not stop the Titans. All seemed futile.

Then came the action that would define this age old war. The Gemini Twins conceived what they thought to be brilliance. Even against the wisdom of the Libra, they defied all sense. In a lapse of desperation, they took themselves to the constellation of The Gemini Zodiac Beast and absorbed the creatures spirit, growing vastly more powerful. But this was a short lived victory. The spirit of this devilish creature was too much for them to control. It overwhelmed them, corrupted them. It turned them into that which they swore to destroy. They became two beings of pure malice. With this power they could track down and destroy the Titans one by one.

Unfortunately, the Titans had grown wise when the mighty god of the underworld told them to be on the alert. They grouped together and easily defeated the twins. The remaining Zodiac Warriors then took the advice of the gods. They knew very well that they could not destroy the Titans. But they could defeat them. They led the Titans to a mountain and tricked the Titans into bringing it down on top of themselves, forming an inescapable prison around them. That was the end of the Titans...for the time being.

The Gemini Twins were imprisoned and all was set right again. However, not all will remain so. The Gemini did vow their ultimate return and they swore that they would destroy the gods for imprisoning them...and now they have escaped. They overpowered the underworld god and set an armada of underworld fiends loose in the land of the living. Now they seek the prison of the Titans...So it is only a matter of time.

Some six years ago, a young girl clings to a young boy as he stands in the doorway with a bag packed full of his belongings. "No, Faulkner! Don't go! You can't go! Mama and Papa wouldn't want this for you and neither do auntie and uncle!" The poor child cries as she tries to pull him back inside but he refuses to budge. "Please don't go," she whimpers. No such luck, however. Her brother had made up his mind. Without another word, he forcefully pulls away from her and walks off into the darkness of night. The girls he leaves standing in the door can only watch as he does so. She watched until he disappears over the hilltop. Then, she walks back inside.

Six years later, the girl is now a young woman. She stands in a new doorway now. This one, a doorway to an ancient building, a school. The doors are towering and made of stone. The double doors begin to open and she instantly sees a wave of soldiers in the front, practicing their sword exercises. Tucked to her side is what appears to be a rapier. She walks inside and is instantly stopped by two soldiers who immediately acknowledge her as a budding warrior. "Well, hello," one of them says. "So I take it you're a soldier-to-be?"

"O-oh, not exactly," the girl says.

"Oh? Then what are you? Cone on, then, what's your name?"

"My name? It's Reyna Harte."

With that, the both of them back away. Harte was a name they knew rather well. It would likely mean their end if ever they caused trouble for her. Faulkner Harte, this girl's brother, was one who put up with no nonsense. Even if he didn't particularly care for his sister, she could very easily tell him that she'd caught two soldiers goofing around. "Oh, do excuse us, miss. We mistook you for another. The ladies facility is in that direction," the other of the two soldiers says. Reyna then turns her head and approaches the female quarters rather deliberately.

Over the course of the next several days, Reyna must settle herself in and is eventually taken by one of the gods' messengers to the Zodiac Warrior training ground. Here she sat alone awaiting the arrival of the others so she might introduce herself. She knew that rumors had been circulating regarding the new student's arrival being a Capricorn and a Zodiac Warrior. Yet while she awaits the arrival of the others, she sits at the table to the far left of the room and reads over the book she'd been given upon entry.

{Attn: Reyna, Promethus}

Lucette watches as Reyna steps forward with her sword. Her movements are fluid and elegant, but Promethus is still able to stop her sword. What chance did she have of hitting him?

Then he calls for her to step forward. Lucette nods and walks forward. She does not attack him right away but watches him. She takes what he told Reyna about the flashiness of her attacks. She has not really attacked much, mostly defended herself. However that is what this is for. She lifts up the handle of her whip and strikes, missing him on purpose. Then she spins around and strikes again from a different angle, again missing him. She wants to throw him off balance so he does not know what to expect. Her control of the whip shows promise as far as hitting her intended target goes. Then she tries to hit him.

[Attn: Lucette]

Promethus suddenly ducks beneath the path of the whip, grabs it as it passes over his head, and yanks, pulling the weapon from Lucette's hands. "A firm stance is a necessity in a uniform weapon such as the sword. However, a whip is a very free weapon and loose. You are far too tense. One can easily see where your whip will strike simply by reading your bodily motions. If you loosen up, you'll find it much easier to guide your weapon effectively.

Promethus then stands, his hands behind his back after tossing the whip back to Lucette. "The two of your are new. You have much to learn. However, I see you both becoming valuable assets to the Zodiac. Tomorrow, I will go over the basics of using your Zodiac abilities. Until then, try to run the basic obstacle course for the remainder of this session." He then turns and leaves on a limp. This was the first time Reyna had noticed. Promethus, skilled as he was, was still an old man. He had a limp. If he'd been in the physical condition now that he'd been back in his prime...

{Attn: Kyrios, Reyna, Open}

Lucette catches the whip, taking stock in what Promethus has to say. Loosening up is easier said than done for her. She begins to walk over to the obstacle course. She takes a look at it and sees Kyrios going through it. He is doing pretty good considering how exhausted he seemed earlier.

She looks over at Reyna. “I think I will go first this time.” She said with a smile on her face. Lucette takes off and starts the obstacle course.

After a few of the other warriors had their shot at the obstacle course, Kyrios had stepped up. Thanks to waiting for some of the others to go ahead, he managed to regain a little strength. He tucked and rolled to get under the hail of needles and used his momentum to spring up onto the pillar that came up form the floor. He leaped from the pillar over to the walls where he would face the hidden swords. Kyrios began by leaping like a cat over the first two blades. He landed on his hands and flipped himself upright over the next one. He was still a little far from the end, be would have to press on.

So far, everything had been perfect. All he would have to do is get through the remainder of the course. Kyrios ducked and weaved around the blades, contorting his body in various ways to dodge the swords. Just before the end, Kyrios' foot slipped, almost causing his waist to meet the business end of one of the swords. He hissed and gritted his teeth, puling himself out of danger and through the end of the obstacle course.

Lucette takes a second to look at the obstacle course. The first obstacle looks easy enough a net on a wall at the top is a platform. She starts to climb up. It takes her a little time, but she finally makes it to the top. She stands on the platform and watches a hail of needles. It seems to be a timing puzzle. She watches and times it before running. One the darts slicing her shoulder at the last second. She mutters a curse under her breath.

The next major obstacle is a balance beam. She steps unto it and see some pillars of wood on strings. She figures it has to be triggered by being in front of them. Great her balance has ever been that great. She looks down and there is a net under it. For the ones that get knocked off. Well she can at least try to see if she will get across.

Post by Baal Xoia 21st February 2012, 6:37 am

Xoia was feeling around the edge of the hidden doorway when it slid aside and a large, gruff looking man walked in, carrying an armful of sticks and an iron rod. Pushing him aside, the man walked to the center of the room and quietly started to build a fire. Wondering what was keeping him from just walking out, he quickly ducked his head outside. Two armed men were standing guard, and one of them immidately smashed his fist to the top of Xoia's head, sending him sprawling back into the room. Outside just seemed to be more caves. This was hopeless, how was he ever going to find a way out?.

Reyna wastes no time in taking to the obstacle course herself. It'd seemed easy enough. She practically danced through it. In fact, there was no questioning it. She HAD danced through it. Unscratched, no, but she had made it through with relative ease. It was as if she'd been instructed in dance by the elite. However, she had been caught for a moment in the hail of needles when she glances through the window and sees her brother training with the other soldiers outside, entering a sort of trance to the point where three needles grazed her.

Nel had been watching, her arms crossed. Upon seeing her dance back out, she scoffs and walks away, shaking her head. Meanwhile, Reyna held the minor wounds to her arm and shoulder while leaning against a wall to soothe the one on her back before she would go to ask Linda for medical assistance.

Slowly Phirina makes it to the infirmary for her lesson. Once there she reported to the head doctor, Maia, for her lesson. She learned how to make various balms and pain relievers from several herbs, before going around the rounds with Maia helping out with rubbing balms on wounds, giving patients herbal teas for pain relief and sleep. This went on for several hours until it was just about time for the midday meal. Before she left Maia told her to get some rest after her meal and gave her the rest of the day off. Phirina thanked Maia for giving her the rest of the day off but didn’t go to the meal but rather went straight to her room and crashed, feeling too tired to eat.

Ever cautious Lucette makes her way across the balance beam. She did not want to disappoint anyone by falling off. She holds out her arms and keeps her eyes forward. She makes it by the first pillar. Then she looks over and sees Reyna swiftly making her way across the beams. She shakes her head and continues on. However the minor distraction cost her as the second pillar hits her and knocks her off. She curses as the falls onto the net below. She scrambles her way across the net and climbs up the wall. She looks around and hopes that no one saw her fall.

She finally makes it to the end of the obstacle course. Her only other injury coming from a sword that grazed her ankle. She knows she did not do a good job and stands at the end awaiting the instruction and/or criticisms of the others.

Linda approaches the two beginners and offers them a drink of water from her jar while she tends to their wounds. Minor perhaps, but any wound, no matter how small, can be crippling in combat. "Lucette, right? You're the Virgo. Try to be less self conscious and more self aware. Your hesitation cost you that run," she says. Meanwhile, she pats the wound on Reyna's back with rubbing alcohol. "As for you...what distracted you? You were doing perfectly all right at first."

"Never mind that," Reyna says, wincing through the sting of the alcohol. She then proceeds.

After a hard session of practice int he obstacle courses and later training in the targeting ranges, the Zodiac Warriors are sent to their studies where they learn academic and combat skills alongside the rest of the student populace.

At the day's end, Promethus calls all students to the dining hall come the dinner bell and holds another announcement. "Within the next week, the annual Zodiac Games will be held," he says, most of the students either cheering in joy or hanging their heads in disdain.

The Zodiac Games...an event regularly held within the school. Each Zodiac was given his or her own small group of following soldiers and they would partake in a sort of war-game. At the end of the week, whichever Zodiac was successful in taking the most Zodiac territories was the winner and was given a prize. There was a rumor going around that this year's prize was very special but no one'd ever seen it or heard what it was. The Leo and Sagittarius Zodiac teams were always neck and neck, by now tied for having the most wins under their belt, that being followed by Taurus and Pisces. This would be a big year.

"Tomorrow," Promethus continues, "The Zodiac Warriors will choose their militias and prepare for the week to come. That is all."

Lucette listens to Linda’s critique as her wounds get healed. “I will try, thank you.” It is the same thing over and over. She always has the tendency to over think the situation.

After a grueling session of the obstacle course and target practices, Lucette was pumped up for classes. Darn adrenaline. However by the time dinner came around, Lucette is exhausted. She barely had the energy to eat. There Promethus makes an announcement about the Zodiac games. She hears the cheers and jeers from the crowd. She wonders why until she hears about the games. What did they expect of her, a new student? Who would actually want to be on her team?

After the announcement she picks up her tray, suddenly losing her appetite. She dumps out her tray and walks out of the dining hall.

Post by Baal Xoia 25th February 2012, 3:22 pm

A few minutes later, an evil looking man walked into the cave, and gave a wicked grin to xoia. He wordlessly grabbed the iron bar from the other man, who walked out of the room. He stuck the end of the bar into the fire, watching it heat up to red hot, then pulling it out of the fire. Quickly turning, he hit Xoia across the face with it, knocking him down, and leaving a large burn mark on his face.

Wordlessly, the man began beating him, hitting his arms, legs, back, and chest. With each hit, his screams got louder, then fell in volume in preperation for the next hit. After dozens of brutal strokes, and after xoia had already blacked out, when the rod had finally cooled, the man dropped in onto the ground and walked out the door, and it slid shut behind him.

Kyrios continued on with the rest of the obstacle courses, trying not to let his exhaustion get to him. After all the training and classes, Kyrios was glad the day was over. As soon as he finished his dinner, he would head straight to bed. As he ate, he listened to the announcement of the Zodiac Games. "So it's that time of the year again..." He muttered. Kyrios had no idea who to pick for his team. Last year, it was a complete train wreck. All of his men were scattered all over the place with not means of communication whatsoever. Kyrios sighed as he took another bite of his meal. He agreed with himself that he wouldn't worry about the games until tomorrow.

Lucette slowly walks around the school deep in thought. Her original intentions were to go to her room, but she finds herself wandering instead. She wonders what kind of students would agree to be under her command. She doesn't have the clout like Leo or Scorpio who have been here for a while. However it does not matter, underdogs win all the time right?

However in order for them to win she would have to step up and be a leader. Is that something she is ready for. Her mind drifts to Reyna and wonders how she feels. She is expected to be their leader after all. Then again she is just a beginner like her, so they can't expect too much from them yet.

[Attn: Open]

The next morning, the breakfast bell calls the students to the dining hall. After this morning's filling is taken in, the Zodiac Warriors are called to stand in a line across the raised platform, facing the rest of the student populace. "We are still short a few Zodiac Warriors and we are expecting them by year's end. For now, those soldiers belonging to the Gemini and Cancer parties scatter about and take up positions in any of the armies. It is your choice today," Promethus says. At that, the Cancer and Gemini soldiers all fan out and randomly stand in the crowds of the other warriors.

Reyna's eyes follow her Brother. He was an advanced student, after all. Scorpio. She's almost forgotten he'd be against her team. Once everyone is divided, Promethus steps back. "All right, Warriors, choose your armies. The Novices and Beginners have guides by them to help them in selecting their armies."

Reyna's guide bends down and whispers into her ear. Reyna ponders all she is told about everyone participating in her army. Who was strongest, fastest, weakest, smartest, all of it was fed to her. It was almost overwhelming. She ultimately starts by picking one young student who was a novice himself. He then picks his sister. She couldn't gather why she did. The guide hadn't spoken any praises of either of them. They were among the weakest in her group of army candidates. But something in her pulled them from the crowd of Capricorn soldiers.

She goes on with this pattern throughout. Reyna had succeeded in picking a large group of dark horses, misfits, and wannabes with a light dusting of anyone considered remotely good or decent. This was her team? Who were the others choosing? Reyna then turns her head to find that the Leo had long picked her team, all of which being incredibly efficient. They looked as though they worked like a machine.

The Aries's team was quite erratic. There were as many good on her team as weak. The same could be said for the Aquarius and Pisces. Yet they at least looked like they knew what they were doing. The Taurus also had a rather threatening team though there was a light dusting of less skilled. More likely than not, he'd be using them as decoys. Sagittarius hadn't completed his team. It was filled with very sneaky or low profile soldiers. Reyna then turns to the other side to see who the others like Scorpio or Virgo had picked.

Once again Lucette is standing in front of the rest of the students. She finds herself in between Kyrios and Linnea. Soon she finds it is her turn to pick her team. She looks at the soldiers left over. Some are openly hostile when their eyes meet. She feels a hand on her shoulder. She looks over and sees a young man. He leans down and whispers his evaluations of the soldiers remaining.

She listens carefully and selects her team. She sees from the others that there isn’t a set amount of people on the team. It is a well rounded team from those who remained. She figured that the more seasoned can help the newer ones like her. She purposely avoided those who were openly hostile.

Lucette stands back and waits for the others to pick their teams.

Linnea watched passively as Lucette finished her choices, then turned to the soldiers in front of her. She considered them quickly, taking in advantages, disadvantages, possible strategies, and after thinking for several long minutes she chose her own team quickly and decisively; a team of fast, skilled fighters, none of whom looked very intimidating, but Linnea knew otherwise. They were all intelligent, but still wouldn't question her decisions, and most of them were capable enough to take care of themselves.

Kyrios looked out at all of the available students with his arms crossed. Within every candidate for his army, he saw flaws and imperfections which would be a bother. Kyrios had to remind himself that he would have to pick in spite of all the flaws everyone had. But he would be sure to iron out those flaws and make them as invisible as possible. This year, Kyrios decided to focus on communication and teamwork, so he began by picking those he knew would follow orders and didn't have a huge ego. That left him with a mix of novices and experienced warriors, but it would do for now. As for the last few picks, Kyrios chose students he knew very well. Not only were they adept at stealth and combat like Kyrios, but there was a sense of mutual respect among them. Kyrios would put them second in command.

Much later, xoia slowly regain conciosness. Hoping he was numb, he tried to move, sending a raw, burning sensation throughout his body. But no tears came, plenty had already come out, and he vowed no more tears. He opened his eyes, expecting to see the dark inside of the cave, but instead it was filled with a strange light. There was a figure standing in front of him, with a serene smile on his face. He put his hand out, which xoia felt himself grabbing. When he touched it, the burns seemed to fade, though they still scarred.

Phirina awakes to warm morning light and starts to get ready for the morning meal getting up slowly until she gets far enough up to see the sun in the sky. She suddenly stiffens up realizing that she had over slept and was probably about 15 minutes late for breakfast and quickly darts towards her closet collapsing form the sudden pain in her ribs from moving too fast in the wrong motion.

She starts crying and cursing herself for allowing herself to get in this shape. How could she prove she was a worthy Gemini to become the next GEMINI if just some whelp bandits were able to do this much damage to her. She was supposed to be among the best warriors here. She Was supposed to be worthy of graduating the school in just a month’s time. Some minutes later she manages to both stop crying and to get up as well. In another 3 she was dressed and headed out to the mess hall.

When she got there she wasn’t surprised to see that for the most part all of the Armies where chosen for the Zodiac Games. She knew the drill since there currently was no Gemini Warrior she would chose an army at random, or so she thought until she remembered her pledge to the young Capricorn and she looked for her army.

Once she had spotted it she approaches the Capricorn and asked her if she would take her as a subordinate, very conscious of her appearance. For she knew with her barely kept hair, and red puffy eyes that it was obvious that she had just gotten up and had also just been crying.

As she waited for the Capricorn’s answer she shifted her wait wrong and winced and placed her hand against her ribs that were cracked. Knowing that she would not to be in fighting condition until another week and a half at the earliest if her body healed at a faster pace than the average one 2 weeks at the latest as long as she went easy what she did.

Xoia sat alone in the room for several hours, eating the food that he found when he woke up. Then the door slid open. The same man walked in, holding several wickly sharp curved knives. He just stopped and stared when he saw Xoia standing in front of him defiantly. Without hesitation, Xoia cut the man down. There would be no more hesitation.

Without so much as glancing down, he walked out of the room, jabbing one of the two guards in the throat with the but of the scythe, and braining the other. He looked down the hallways, both of them dark except for torchlight. The one side ended a little from the door, and the other turned a corner shortly down the hallway. He started walking, cautious for any more people.

"Where do we get that?" Reyna asks.

"I have a stash back in my room. I only use it on the lethal stuff. Cracked ribs ain't exactly the most lethal thing in the world but it can get deadly. Don't want to take the chance. You're gonna be all right, just stay with us."

Moments later, Linda kneels by Phirina and pours drops of the healing nectar into her mouth, holding her head up so she can swallow. "That'll speed up the healing process. Give it a couple days. You should be perfectly fine though if ya just keep from moving."

"Which brings me to my decision...you can join," Reyna says. "I've never seen someone with that much heart before...that much passion. It's a good thing to have." At Reyna's statement, Promethus smiles before stepping up to the platform.

"All right," he begins, "This ends the Army Selection period! Those who have been chosen should be honored. The Zodiac Warriors have selected you exclusively. Do try to live up to your army's name. The games will begin this evening. I suggest you prepare" He then walks out of the hall, leaving the students to scatter, most going back to their rooms to stock up on supplies. This includes the Leo and most of the other Zodiac Warriors, leaving Reyna standing there, looking about the room.

{Attn: Open}

Lucette knows they are all looking for her to lead, and the thought of that almost paralyzes her. No, she is a Zodiac warrior. She has to show them why she was chosen. She walks back to her room to get her stuff. Before long she is standing in front of her ‘troops’. Ok guys I know that I am a new person here, but that does not mean we cannot win this thing. I picked you guys because you seem like the most balanced out there. I hope we can work together as a team, because that is what will win this…Teamwork. Now let’s get warmed up so we can practice together.”
